    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Joe West was being candid in an interview for his 5k game. I don't think his comments were that bad, honestly.

Interesting that it's THIS which gets the dude suspended, not the calls on the field.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

It even looks like Beltre was laughing. I know the relationship between umpires and players have changed a lot but this seems like a harmless story. Maybe Joe shouldn't have mentioned Beltre's name in telling the story but c'mon this is just an amusing tale.

In fact, the tenor and tone of the story reminds me of the books of former umpire Ron Luciano who had TONS of stories like that that in his memoirs. If you can find any of the books anywhere they're worth reading.

It's actually kinda endearing and funny for West, someone who's typically a worthless, arrogant piece of **** at his own job.

No issues with it. I get the sense it wouldn't be as much if an issue if it wasn't directed towards Beltre.

He was laughing. He wasn't doing it in a "You gotta be kidding me" way either. He thought what Joe said was amusing. Didn't actually seem butt-hurt over it.

No problem with the suspension. It's like someone asking a judge who their least favorite attorney to deal with is... You just say no comment. Answering makes it look like you're showing bias, which as the person in charge of being neutral, you can't do. The umpires don't want to give way to the robots, but that's what they're supposed to be in the first place. All of this "look at how cute Joe West is, that's just the way he is" is a part of the problem in the first place IMO. But we already know he's a terrible umpire and makes himself bigger than the game, I don't know what much else he could do to justify being let go. The league doesn't care so it just looks goofy when they act like they do randomly.

What's missing from the story is Beltre's side.

Adrian said recently that he likes to have fun on the field, including joking with the umps like, "blue, that pitch is outside!" When it's clearly a strike.

Beltre said the umps get a kick out of it too. It's just fun and games.

Enter Joe West who is asked the question about complainers and he goes immediately at Beltre.

It seems like typical Joe West had no idea Adrian Beltre was a jokester and having a fun time. To Joe, Adrian was a complainer.

Considering it's West, Im not surprised he has zero sense of humor and any suspension is worth it to me. Less games he umps, less crap everyone deals with.

I guess I'm the only person who likes Joe West lol

As for suspension I guess I understand it, but I don't agree with it.

So he called Beltre the biggest complainer, so what?

If you folks hated the Players' Weekend before, wait until you see the jerseys those nicknames will be on.

Don't forget, it's criminal and ruining the game of baseball!

The players got to choose the nickname they wanted IF they wanted one, and Kyle Seager's is the best.

I actually like the jerseys and hats. It has a little league feel to it and being worn for only a weekend isn't going to be the end of the world. I saw the consolidated list of the Blue Jays nicknames most of which are a bit stupid (sadly, Pillar's is just "PIL") but it's all in the name of fun so it's not too bad.
