So every time you got to change numbers, you have to pay? I guess that explains why new guys gotta do stuff like buy someone dinner + other stuff if you're the reason that other guy is changing his number.

Surprised you pay that much though. Don't jerseys just go on clearance? Sure, they're losing money, but $40k sounds like he's paying full price for all.

Rendon is making $5.8M this year...him paying $40K would be the equivalent of one of us paying approximately $500 to make this happen. I find it hilarious that he chose not to...

If my job told me I had to give them $500 to do something that would be mostly irrelevant for me and would then give them the opportunity to make a bunch more money off my name, I'd stick with the same number too.

If the Marlins trade anyone for pitching or close prospects I'd put my $$ on Ozuna. Makes sense to sell high on a guy who at this point should finish around .300 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs and is a Boras client.

But yeah I'm not sure I buy them needing to completely rebuild. With how garbage their pitching has been they're still around .500 with that lineup

That's ridiculous. They should've negotiated a less draconian policy than this into the CBA instead of player weekend, lol.

I could see having this policy to prevent guys from changing their numbers constantly, but give 'em a free number change every few years. Jersey buyback for anything more frequent.

It's not relevant for someone going to a different team.

But it would be if he's more popular than a guy currently wearing that number so that other guy has to change. Which is why I mentioned a new player on a team might pay for dinner for the year or something to "compensate" the guy who now has to switch numbers(and pay) because of this.

At least that's how I think it works?

Yea that is a good point but in that instance I doubt there is too much inventory out for the player changing numbers because that isn't usually asked of someone who's a star.

So i'm a few days late on this but I don't think anyone's mentioned it here. I know there's a segment of people in this forum who aren't big fans of him so you should be happy. Dan Shulman will be leaving Sunday Night Baseball at the conclusion of this season. He's getting remarried and is re prioritizing his life and has reworked his contract with ESPN to the point that he will only work around 60 dates a year. (college BBall, a limited schedule of weekday MLB games) He will also continue his association with the Blue Jays locally as well.

ESPN has no candidates to replace him as of now. If i'm ESPN I go big on this and try to land Matt Vasgersian.

The Yankees really don't have an issue since the players names aren't on the back of the uni. The Dodgers had a similar issue a few years back. When they acquired Hanley Ramirez they tried to convince him to wear #99 due to the fact that they still had a ton of Manny Ramirez #99 in storage.

Heard their average attendance is 17,000.

That would be a reason to get rid of his $295 million contract.

Though if attendance is so poor, why did the club attract new buyers?
