I wonder if they ever timed AFL games before to get an idea of how much time is actually being reduced.

I'm wondering if savvy runners will be able to game the clock and get an advantage trying to steal. Something akin to how linebackers will blitz as the play clock is running out. It may sound impossible that a runner could keep an eye on the clock and the pitcher to avoid getting picked off but if the next generation of baseball players grow up with a play clock it's something that you might see. The pitcher could just easily combat it by not waiting for the clock to run out.

      I'm just thinking out loud.

I thought about that, too. But the announcers said the pitcher need only to come set within the :20. After they've come set, the clock doesn't matter; so it doesn't dictate when they need to actually deliver the pitch.

Haha, ok. I took "gives pitchers 20 seconds to come to the set position to deliver a pitch or throw to a base" as they had to pitch/throw with in the 20.

          Makes sense.

I don't agree with this statement. I love the game and have been a season ticket holder for about five years now. This game, next to my love of family and state, is my favorite love. But some of these pitchers take forever just to scratch themselves much less play the actual game. When the Rangers had Jason Frasor, you could read a book in between pitches. When you have to go home with traffic and be at work at 7:00am the next morning, you value your time at the ballpark.

I saw on the bottom line that the BoSox hired Chilli Davis as their new hitting coach, pretty astute move there if you ask me.

The thing with Plesac is that when he was here in Toronto you would NEVER guess that he's such a great personality. He really does make MLB Tonight a great show to watch when he's on.

Pitchers should just work fast and efficiently regardless. I'm a Braves fan and I've been blessed with pitchers who do just that, with so many games I remember not even going two and a half hours.

I hate the idea of an actual clock being involved in a game. The beauty of baseball is that it's not bound by any clock.

Brandon Finnegan is the 1st player ever to play in 2 World Series in the same year.

Was trying to find this under unwritten rules, but can't. I thought that an unwritten rule is that if you have a large lead late in the game (e.g., 7 run lead in the 9th), you take 2 strikes before swinging.

Maybe it's just a Spring Training thing...which would make more sense.
