This is fascinating and lines up pretty well with what i've seen without really studying it. I watch a lot of older games (oldest of which was the '65 or so ASG) and there was definitely a lot more pace between pitches. There wasn't that much in the way of dead air. I will grant you that commercial breaks and lengths will make the game longer but when you have a difference of nearly a half hour in dead air than there needs to be something done about it. That's just ridiculous.

People really need to chill with the whole we need to cut back on commercial stuff. There is already a clock for commercials (2:00, I think) and the majority of people would be bored out of their mind if they show what happened during commercial breaks in the ballpark, which just watching IFers taking ground balls, pitchers warming up and OFers playing catch with each other.

Not really related to commercials or downtime, but in the All Star Game last year they had players mic'ed up on the field for broadcast interviews during actual play. I think that would be a nice feature to see during more ESPN games. I know they have a game to play seriously and coaches to respond to in the dugout, but anything that is agreed upon for a half-inning in the third or so would be cool to listen to.

I at least hope to see it for the ASG again next year.

I don't think it's that there are commercials, it's that the between inning breaks take longer than they should because of the commercial breaks.

I think they cut down the time to two minutes appropriately (about from last out to first pitch, mind you). You don't notice it at the ballpark, and now there are only really three commercials in between half-innings instead of four commercials.

Between AB's could definitely improve on time, though. There is no reason it should take longer than thirty seconds from the end of one play till the next pitch between AB's.

I'm sure this is just me but I want to quickly get on a soap box.

I wish they'd get rid of MLB Now and bring back Clubhouse Confidential; Brian Kenny is MUCH better going solo versus a panel. I'm sure everybody remembers the ESPN series "5 reasons you can't blame..." and he did great presenting the facts and then his case...given his sabermetric views, he would do a great job solo and without arguing presenting sabermetric stats and presenting the facts about society's versus the true viewpoint of a player. There's so many things I'd love to see covered - is the long relief pitcher (Andrew Miller) more valuable than a #1 starter...where should the best hiter hit in the lineup...etc. No panel or roundtables, just show the analysis and facts.

I wish they'd bring it back and just have him present various topics, viewpoints.

I dunno...not that I didn't like Clubhouse Confidential, but I really, really enjoy MLB Now. IMO, it's cool to see the different panelists and their POV.

I like MLB Now and hearing the different perspectives. There are times when Kenney can be really pedantic and pick fights for absolutely no reason though that has lessened some since a good deal of the SABR type stuff has crept into the public consciousness. I do like your idea about him presenting his various cases. It's why I love when he does his Cooperstown Justice segments this time of year and when he does a piece like that on the show. I think something like that expanded to a half hour format in podcast form would work well.

Braves with 8 players...I am surprised how Allard's stock has fallen. I still think he's a tremendous prospect.

I think the biggest surprise for me was the White Sox only having 5 players...that is probably because Giolito and Moncada have graduated, but I thought they had 8-9 legit top 100 players.

Like seeing Vlad and Bo so high up. For once I hope Jays can actually keep their young guys and build for long term. Having a team in future with Vlad/Bo as the stars with Stroman/Sanchez as aces in the rotation, that's a great team to build around.

Just sucks that Vlad plays 3B. We won't ever get to see Vlad and Donaldson together on this team.

Didn't scouts anticipate Vlad eventually getting moved to OF or 1B?
I believe Sportsnet had a segment on him and they mentioned that they don't think he has the skills to hang as a 3B in the bigs.
Might be wrong about that though.
