Pretty crazy to me that the extra innings runner thing is actually happening. Doubt it ever reaches the majors.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I remember the hue and cry over this rule in the WBC. EVERYONE from players, announcers and fans HATED it with a passion. It was enough that Manfred basically had to say "no no, this will not be a MLB thing I promise you!". It seems like they think they can sneak this by in the minors and hope no one remembers.
Honestly, if they institute this rule in MLB you can count me out as a viewer.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

EXTRA INNINGS
At all levels of Minor League Baseball, extra innings will begin with a runner on second base. The runner at second base will be the player in the batting order position previous to the leadoff batter of the inning (or a substitute for that player). By way of example, if the number five hitter in the batting order is due to lead off the 10th inning, the number four player in the batting order (or a pinch-runner for such player) shall begin the inning on second base. Any runner or batter removed from the game for a substitute shall be ineligible to return to the game, as is the case in all circumstances under the Official Baseball Rules.
For purposes of calculating earned runs under Rule 9.16, the runner who begins an inning on second base pursuant to this rule shall be deemed to be a runner who has reached second base because of a fielding error, but no error shall be charged to the opposing team or to any player.
"We believe these changes to extra innings will enhance the fans' enjoyment of the game and will become something that the fans will look forward to on nights where the game is tied late in the contest," said Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner. "Player safety has been an area of growing concern for our partners at the Major League Baseball level, and the impact that lengthy extra innings games has on pitchers, position players and an entire organization was something that needed to be addressed."Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It's here. In the minors at least. Got to accept it.
From their perspective, I do think it'll create some crazy late inning drama which could be fun.
I'm curious how teams will manage the 9th+ inning .
What if you have 2 outs and the next hitter is a speedster but the hitter due up is not. Assume both are equally poor hitters. Do you intentionally walk the hitter to avoid having him stand on 2nd in a potential 10th inning?
Is it even worth the risk?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
At least have him start on 1st, not in scoring position.
Hell, have his starting place determined by hitting the ball. Oh wait...Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The thing I strongly dislike about it (aside from everything) was when we saw it in the WBC, everyone used cookie cutter strategy (bunting the runner over, giving the next two hitters a crack at it). I mean, it really felt like I was watching the same inning unfold each time, and that's not what baseball was meant to be.Last edited by Sportsforever; 03-14-2018, 03:27 PM."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't see this leaking to the MLB level. The reasoning they use is actually pretty good.. no sense in burning through a ton of pitchers for a 15 inning minor league game. Minor league wins and losses are essentially worth nothing, unless you believe they need to "create a culture of winning" at the lower levels. I'm sure organizations are happy that there will be less moving guys around after long games, or using guys beyond their pitch/inning thresholds.
But if you're a real fan of minor league baseball, hopefully your viewing experience isn't too tainted.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
On the flip side, people also say things like: "Look, they've added automatic walks and nobody is complaining about that." First of all, yes I am. Second of all, I don't want to become a nuisance about it (though I'm sure I have). Just because a change has been made and it is not the major topic of conversation, doesn't mean it's for the better.
If tomorrow the MLB instituted the tie-breaker rule and my Giants get a walk-off single under said scenario, I'll be cheering my *** off because of the victory. That doesn't mean in the recess of my mind that I feel the means by which they did it is something that I prefer to whatever else we have. Just because it is not a constant griping doesn't mean that a change shouldn't be made. There are other laws that fall under that same umbrella.
The MLB shouldn't act like they own me no matter what they do to the sport. I almost love baseball more than I could love another human being, but there is a tipping point and someday they will cross that. It doesn't have to be major, but rather just the last little nudge from a bunch of nudges before it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
