Re: MLB Off-Topic
Well, lets break it down.
“He’s simply overrated.
But aside from that one super season in 2015 he hasn't reached those heights again either because of injury or straight lack of performance.
The good ain’t worth the bad . . . Cares about himself more than the team.
If I was in charge and had money, my team would not pursue him . . . If he gets more than 10-years, $300 million, I’d be surprised. I would not give him 10 years period and certainly not at that AAV.
The guy is 25 (26 by Opening Day next season) and his agent is Scott Boras. Is 10 years, 300 M sufficient for him? I don't think so.
There are others interesting factors impacting in this whole discussion:
- Manny Machado
- Teams capable of spending that kind of money AND having a need for his services.
- The MLBPA/free agency/CBA situation.
He’s just not worth it. He’s a selfish, losing player.”
At 8 M per Win that comes about at 8 x 4 = 32M. Accounting for the aging curve, fact he hasn't reached his 27 year old season, variability in his output etc. 10 years, 300M seems about right. I think he is worth it, I don't think he is a losing player.
Is he brash? Yes. Is he confident? Yes? Does it something seems to border in arrogance and smugness? Maybe.
He is also one of the few players that is willing to step outside the box and interact/get into the whole NBA-ish social media thing which may be irritating to some old school executive types.
Anyways, I'm biased. I think Bryce Harper has great hair, does the social media stuff that is needed more in the game to attract young fans and I always envisioned him joining the Yankees at some point (I think that scenario has become much less likely now).Last edited by Master Live 013; 06-12-2018, 03:41 PM.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

I do agree that Harper is overrated and is a bit to much of a "me" guy similar to Bonds in his Pittsburgh days and at times in San Fran.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Well Harper will never be Trout's equal. But nobody is. Trout is a gift from the baseball gods and is just not fair to be compared with.
Harper is 25 with an MVP already on his mantle and five AS appearances. The best is yet to come.
To me you'd have to be a fool not to go after this guy. He's going to get better too.

My favorite stat is that this is his 6th year in the Majors, and he's 6 months younger than Aaron Judge.Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Lets take a look at the top 10 payrolls right now:
Spoiler
- Red Sox: Jackie Bradley Jr. seems to be regressing offensively once again. He still grades as one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball. They got a lot of money coming off the books this offseason, could they move Betts to CF add Harper and keep Bradley as a defensive replacement? Meh.
- Giants: this seems like a team in need of a rebuild so I'm going to say no.
- Dodgers: Lots of money coming off the books. Probably time to pull the plug on Puig and part ways. That would leave the Dodgers with Pederson, Verdugo and Kemp. Add Harper and move/keep Kemp on the bench as a 4th OF plus/platoon partner with Joc. Plus is Verdugo ready? Seems like a good spot.
- Nationals: Haven't been shy about spending. If Soto sticks, Eaton can play CF and they got Robles waiting in the wings. Could see it either way, definitely a suitor.
- Cubs: Seems there is no room for Harper, RF and LF are occupied, if Happ continues to develop in CF then I don't see it.
- Angels: LF and CF taken by Upton and Trout, they could move Calhoun to make room for Harper but meh. Plus there is Ohtani who can play the outfield too.
- Yankees: Too many outfielders. Lets say we make Stanton a full time DH, trade Garner, keep Hicks in CF, Judge in RF/LF add Harper in RF/LF and keep Frazier as the 4th outfielder. Meh, seems too much of a hassle but the Yanks do need a left-handed big bat in the lineup. Maybe if the Boss was alive but I don't see it.
- Cardinals: Cards always seem to be in the top 10 in payroll but they don't seem to ever make big splashes during free agency, preferring instead to take a prudent approach. Plus they have cost controlled Pham in CF, Fowler on a long term contract in RF and their big offseason acquisition Ozuna in LF. No space.
- Blue Jays: Not a big free agent player, they need to go the rebuild route, plus I'm not sure going to Canada is the move Harper is looking for.
- Mets: With Cespedes, Bruce, Conforto and Nimmo coming along they got no space but either way ever since the Ponzi scheme thing these guys just make excuses not to spend money.
Other options are:
- Orioles: Dumpster fire plus they got their own issues resigning Machado.
- Mariners: Always seem to have a hearty payroll, but another Cano type gigantic contract? Meh.
- Braves: Team on the up and up, Inciarte in CF, Acuña in left? A "look at us" deal? Intriguing, but do they want to spend?
- Phillies: Another team on the up and up, have spent in the past. I could see them as a dark horse.
- Diamondbacks: Not afraid to hand a humongous contract (Greinke), need an outfielder. But resigning Pollock and adding Harper? Meh.
So:
- Dodgers
- Nationals
- Braves
- Phillies
That's an interesting market for Bryce Harper.Last edited by Master Live 013; 06-12-2018, 09:01 PM.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment
