Re: MLB Off-Topic
That's one way to make people be like "___ has a baseball team?". And items like this, obviously it's not something that'll be around for years at a time, so the short time it is around, you're definitely gonna get people buying it just to see what it's like. Not much you can do differently with pizza or hot dog sales, so these crazy over the top "snacks" would do the trick.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Thought this was kind of interesting...
2017 MLB (thru 6/24): .255/.324/.426, HR in 3.33% of plate appearances, 21.5 K%
2018 MLB (thru 6/24): .245/.317/.407, HR in 2.99% of plate appearances, 22.4 K%
The tendency for more strikeouts (up by 1%) seems to be winning out against the tendency for more homers (down by 10%). It will be interesting to see where this goes in the next 5, 10 years. But, for the time being it looks like 2017 will remain a high water mark for home runs; 2018 is on pace to come in ~5th place since 2000.
In terms of batting average, this year's .245 mark would be 2nd lowest since the mound was lowered, with only the .244 mark in 1972 being lower.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

It's weird that we're seeing starting lineups with regulars hitting between .180 and .220 like all is good.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I'm not saying I want something like the '80s all the time but can we please see something akin to the mid '90s?! There was a pretty good balance for the most part from '93 to about '97ish.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

One of the main reasons why the game aesthetically at least is at an all-time low IMO. The game is way too static these days what with Ks, the shift (and lack of adjustment to it) and the loss of situational baseball.

EDIT: I don't really find myself bothered by how "static" the game is or how "little action" there is--this has been a criticism of baseball since forever. I do find it frustrating when players don't compete like I want them to--either when pitchers can't throw strikes when they must (like against fellow pitchers or with the bases loaded) or when batters don't pay any attention at all to the situation they're in (score, base/out situation) and just swing, swing, swing for the fences.Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 06-26-2018, 06:29 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Since the start of the 2015 season, there have been 1,953 bunt hits in the majors, and Greinke hasn't allowed any of them. There are 53 pitchers who have thrown at least 500 innings in that time, and every one of them who isn't Greinke has allowed at least one bunt hit -- and an average of seven apiece.
This is a pretty cool article that displays the lost art of pitcher's fielding their position. I remember watching Greg Maddux and trying to emulate his hop at the end of his delivery to get myself squared up to the hitter after delivering a pitch. Grienke has the athleticism to be able to alter how he decelerates to get his drive leg on the ground and move to the ball.Comment
