    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I spent the summer and fall riding Amtrak’s Hiawatha train from Chicago to Milwaukee, helping Bud Selig write his autobiography. I’m happy to say the manuscript has been submitted and Harper Collins has set a July release date for the book, titled “For the Good of the Game.’’
Title is just gross but this should be an interesting read.

Of course i'm biased toward Halladay but even before he died I thought he's a 1st or 2nd year guy for enshrinement.

I listed the guys eligible to get in based on the first public numbers.
Don't get me wrong, I think Halladay is a Hall of Famer.

I also don't mind the Halladay vs Mussina debate. Not picking a side.

It's just ridiculous to me that for every argument these writers had against Mussina, that just brushed it aside for Halladay. Their careers are much closer than most would probably think.

It's just criminal that Mussina sits around waiting years to get in and because Halladay dies (not trying to say I don't care that he died. It's awful) Halladay is getting nearly 12% more votes than Mussina.

      It doesn't make sense.

Lol let it go man. We got guys like Rabbit Maranville, Bill Mazeroski, Rube Marquard, Ross youngs, Jim Rice, Baines etc.. in the hall over Moose, Bonds, Schilling, Clemens. Ehh you get the point.

I just realized the hall is a joke a while ago. And alot of cases where guys got in were just popularity contests.

It will be interesting to see how Bud Lite tries to whitewash the Steroid Era or if he'll put some blame on himself AND the institution of MLB for looking the other way in the name of bringing back fans.

I doubt he takes much blame, I fully expect him to either skip collusion or say something like "player salaries were getting out of hand and we had to protect ourselves". Wonder how much will be revealed that we don't already know, hopefully we get some bodies unburied.

With 128 ballots revealed, and 31% of the votes known, the 2019 class would be

              Mariano Rivera (100%)
              Roy Halladay (94.2)
              Edgar Martinez (91.4)
              Mike Mussina (82)
              Roger Clemens (75)

if the voting ended today. Bonds is currently at 74.2%

Encouraging to see ClemEns and Bonds making headway...would love to see them get in if only to see Verducci/Costas/Morgan lose it.

As much as I really, really detest Curt Schilling as a person, if Mussina and Halladay get in, then Schilling needs to get in also.

Agreed; and we need to stop the "person" vetting. You are in for your on the field accomplishments, period. Schilling might be a loser, but he's far from the worst "person" in the HOF if he gets there.

O.J Simpson comes to mind. Another sport but one of the better backs ever. Back on topic.

Schilling is an easy Hof'er. I'm a yankee fan and I'm saying this.

Pete Rose, Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, Michael Myers. Just push them all in.

On this day in 1933, Reds GM Larry MacPhail attempted to buy Babe Ruth from the Yankees to use him as a player-manager but Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert wouldn't sell.

I disagree to an extent, as I think the Hall of Fame is also about being someone baseball is proud to have represent them as it's the ultimate tool for memorialising them, so there should be at least some attention paid to what you've done off the field, but only in extreme cases. Schilling is a tool, but that's not enough to keep him out.

I mean, if someone got sent down for murder, rape, abusing kids etc etc, I wouldn't want them anywhere near the HoF, regardless of their on field achievements.
