What does that mean? There are humans playing the game, humans calling the game, humans watching the game, the umpires would still be there even to relay the calls, they just aren't the ones to make them. It's specifically the mistakes they make that you want to keep on the game?

I like the variances of the umpire's strike zone, the everything's not perfect aspect of it.

I like that there are disagreements over balls/strikes. I like that one game the zone is expanded passed the outside corners but tighter on the inside and the next game it's vice versa or something completely different.

Part of the game is learning the umpire's strike zone. I like that aspect of the game, the human side of the game.

I imagine batters will still argue balls and strikes, it will have the same effect it does now because the call never gets changed. There will still be mistakes to be made on the bases, Angel Hernandez will still be able to screw up.

The strike zone to me is non-negotiable. It's like if the hoop started moving side to side while shooting free throws or the goalposts moved 5 yards back on a field goal. I love the variation in parks, stances, deliveries, repertoires, but the strike zone is the strike zone. In my mind it doesn't belong to the umpire it belongs to the game, them thinking it's their zone is part of the problem. Referees don't make the rules, they enforce them.

My thing has always been. Ok, you have a certain strike zone as an umpire. Keep that zone. So hitters and pitchers know what they have to look for.

You're giving some leeway lower in the zone but not giving the higher zones. Ok don't change that. Stay consistent. Don't just randomly start calling a high strike when you haven't done that the entire game. All I ask. Is that so difficult?

I agree with this. So long as your consistent the hitters and pitchers will adjust.

The strike zone to me is like fouls called in basketball, or penalties called in football. They all have rules in the rulebook for what constitutes a penalty or a foul, but the way they are enforced changes based on the referees. Same thing with the strike zone.

For the same reason Blzer doesn't want half-measures with the nets. How much is enough? More training doesn't mean anything other than more training. Might not make any difference. Might recruit worse or the same umpires. They already think they're holding them accountable so what is "more accountability"?

The strike zone is too fundamental to the game to be that to me. This is like if the ref decided the height of the hoop every change of possession or said **** it a first down is 12 yards this go round instead of 10.

I'll def take Robot umpires over this. It's not just Angel Hernandez. It's been all over. It feels like it's been more pronounced this year. It's baseball's biggest problem not pace of play.

honestly I'll take the issues that come with Robot umpires over whatever the so called Human Element is.

I get it's never going to happen. mainly because baseball is the last to change anything. But I certainly prefer it.

I still say if they go with robot umpires, that they just don't tell anybody. See if anybody just notices.

Let's get rid of these juiced balls, though.

Penalties and fouls aren't fundamental to the other sports?

In any event, you go up to bat and you take a pitch that is 2 inches off the plate and its called a strike. You turn and ask the umpire if that is as far as his strike zone will expand, he'll answer. Even if he doesn't, if the next two pitches are the exact same pitch in the same exact location and you take them and strike out, that's on the you. You were "told" that pitch was going to be a strike.

This "changing" of the strike zone has been going on for years and years and years. It's just now a "problem" because every ****ing broadcast wants to put a damn box on the screen to give the viewers and the commentators something to talk about and an "issue" to discuss/debate.

Lets be honest. What the game needs is a complete catalog of different cannon sounds for balls and strikes.

ESPN is on the right track. I want to hear explosions when a guy like Aroldis Chapman or Jordan Hicks hit the mit. I want my neighbors to hear it. And then I want plastic toy cannon sounds for a soft thrower like C.C. More cannons, better baseball. Nuff said. Carry on.
