Why was he still accessible to others physically berating him long after the shooting? I'm not certain I know about how things exactly work in the DR regarding that. Or maybe that video was taken immediately after, and police were still en route.
David Ortiz might be the biggest thing to ever come out of the Dominican Republic.

Law enforcement ain't gonna protect the guy that tried to murder him.

Lol at "mistreated by civilians". He literally tried to murder someone that the entire country loves and adores. He was treated exactly as he should've been.

Ummm, few are going to cry because that guy got rough up a little bit but from that to "he was treated exactly as he should've been" you sound like people who don't mind that prison rape exist.

How about due process and punishment according to what the law dictates. That should be sufficient.

Due process is the way it should be. And in America that's what he would get. It's invaluable and one of the most important things about our country. Not sure how things are in the DR in that regard.

But between the moment he pulled the trigger and the moment he gets in police custody, he's gonna get his *** kicked by the people on the ground who saw him try to murder one of the greatest stars their island country has ever produced. It's unreasonable to expect otherwise.

And quite frankly, I'm OK with it.

I didn't mean mistreated as in treated wrongly, I just meant unkindly treated. I guess I used the wrong word there, didn't I.

I'm also not saying law enforcement is going to protect the guy, I was wondering why he wasn't already hauled away in handcuffs and how people still had a chance at him.

I don’t give a **** that someone gets raped in prison. You know how to avoid getting raped in prison? Don’t commit a crime that places you in prison.

              Unkindly treated?

What should they have done, bought him a drink while waiting on the cops?

There are many people in prison today who are innocent. Not the majority (not even close), but even one person who is innocent and in prison... well... it would be nice if they weren't raped, now wouldn't it be?

"Unkindly treated" is synonymous with "beat up," not "unfairly treated." Again, I used the wrong term the first time.

And the reason I brought it up in the first place was because when the videos were posted, it was long, long after when somebody should have been arrested at that point, so I was questioning "Where are the police?"

                  Re: MLB Off-Topic

Was told second hand that the guy asked that he be protected and that he’s a good man.

On the surface, you tried to kill someone, how can you be a good man?

But as I thought more. Maybe it was a robbery gone wrong. Got itchy and pulled the trigger instead of just using the gun as a threat. That’s still not good... but that is the difference between attempted murder and armed robbery.

Then I wondered. If this is all drug related... did a cartel pick this man, tell him to commit this murder or they would kill his whole family? Cartels have been known to use innocent or indebted people as their tools for destruction. What do you choose? To die, to have your whole family murdered, or to go kill a man yourself? Talk about a rock and a hard place...

But yeah, if someone hurt my wife or my son intentionally, I don’t think I’d be thinking through this as I did. I don’t think the people on the street cared much about details, right or wrong.

I’ve seen too many slam dunks unraveled when the whole story comes out. Yeah, we’re probably talking about the difference between bad and evil instead of good and bad... I just like to leave the door open, while also understanding in reality, in the heat of the moment, the people delivering vigilante justice weren’t thinking about the big picture.

I can’t say what I would’ve done if I was out there. I hope I never have to “choose,” if it’s even a “choice” when you’re blinded by anger.

I don't know where the cops were, but I still don't understand the sympathy shown towards a man who just tried to murder someone.

So he got his *** kicked...still better off than Ortiz.

Okay, for the last time, I'm not stating people should have been sympathetic toward him! I messed up with first term I used the first time. Let's try that post again, with the proper term choice.

My question had nothing to do with "He shouldn't be able to be touched by others," my question was "Does the Dominican Republic have an absent form of arresting people that I don't know about?"

For the record, I believe in the legal system doing what it does. I don't think inmates should be touching each other for any particular reason, especially "lesser crimes" (petty and non-violent, let's say).

That being said, I think the TDKR shooter was beat up in prison as well. I don't at all feel sympathetic toward it, and at that point I think that's just nature taking its course... but if I had to choose between him being beat up and him not being beat up, I'd choose the latter. That being said, if I had to choose between him being beat up or some innocent soul being beat up, well of course you know where I stand on this.

I think of it like spiders and stuff. I set them free when I see them in my house. Now, if they happen to be in the crossfire of my shower water or another spider that's attacking it, I'll just let nature be nature and won't feel as sympathetic toward it.

If they were kicking him in the face to hold him down until police arrived, then let every suitable kick happen if he attempts to struggle free and make a run for it. I'd say there are more suitable measures than that, though. I bet I'd willingly get my own cheap shot in if I was given the opportunity, but I'm not about to end his life or give him a permanently poorer life at the same time. I'll let the police do what needs to be done.

Shouldn't you be somewhere protesting the execution of a murderer? You know the one that murdered an entire family but still has rights.

I agree. I've tried to clarify it ever since.

I tried my best to not make a stance about that either way.
