Re: MLB Off-Topic
The Rays have received permission from MLB's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play early season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the rest of the year in Montreal, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday.
Under the plan, the Rays would play in new stadiums in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal, according to sources. The ability to play games early in the season in Florida would preclude the need for a domed stadium, cutting the cost of a new building. A month ago, Bronfman -- who along with Montreal businessman Mitch Garber has expressed interest in taking a minority stake in the Rays alongside owner Stuart Sternberg -- reached an agreement with a developer on a site in Montreal's Pointe-Saint-Charles neighborhood to potentially build a new stadium. The number of home games each city would receive has not been determined, according to sources.
So it's not like TB would be paying for 2 stadiums. They cheap out on cost for 1, while the Montreal owners would build their own.
If this actually happens, MLB better make sure every single game between Jays and that franchise happens during the city swap. Jays should never play in TB.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Just say goodbye to Tampa Bay and move to Montreal. Tampa Bay doesn't want a baseball team. I don't think that building a new stadium, that isn't domed, is going to change that mindset.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Meh, it's fine. Let them do it. Would be exciting to me.
I wish it weren't as simple as half the season there and half the season there. If you're gonna go for this, I want them in Tampa in June and then Montreal in July, then back to Tampa for August, Montreal in September. Just keep switching it up.
Let the schedule maker have to figure it out. Or just arrange according to availability. If weather looks bad in Montreal, make the teams fly to Tampa to play the three-game set. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Who knows what player would want to play for that team.
But if this plan doesn't work, I hope this was the final plan TB has, and MLB just outright moves them completely, because this sounds like a last ditch effort.
But the fact that MLB could've possibly given Montreal permission to be the 30.5th team, could say alot about who would be first in line for a team if relocation or expansion happens.
Lets say they manage to get things divided up. 81 as TB, 81 as Montreal.
Of those 81 as Montreal, 19 could be devoted to playing the Jays. That's almost a quarter of their games. Attendance for Jays AND Montreal would go up because of that.
But the best name that absolutely needs to happen if this is a thing, is calling them the Ex-Rays.Last edited by Majingir; 06-20-2019, 02:41 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The Tampreal Rayxpos need to divide their home games by series. 3-game weekend, Fridays in Tampa, Saturdays in Montreal, Sundays in Tampa.
Or just play all home games in Emporia, Virginia. The exact midpoint between Montreal and Tampa.Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic
This is basically a trial run for the Rays moving to Montreal full time. There are no direct flights between Tampa and Montreal so the crowds up there will be all Quebec people. This is their chance to prove that they can support an MLB team.

Good thing about those no direct flights, Montreal was really in danger of being overrun by Rays fans for a second there.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You literally just have to fly from TB, connecting from Toronto to Montreal.
But what I saw some comments say does make sense.
Those old Canadians who go to Florida for the winter could perhaps go to Tampa until May/June and come back in Montreal for the summer. Get to follow the team in both cities.Comment

No way MLB is gonna put up with this for much longer. By next CBA surely owners are gonna force MLB to take action against Rays. Build it or you're done.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't know how this stuff works but what's to stop them from just paying for the usage and playing somewhere else?
I guess it could come down to the "little" people. What happens to the ticket office, the custodians, the food service, etc. That would be major damage to a lot of people's expected income."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Use agreement does not allow them to even talk to other cities about playing anywhere before 2028.John Romano added,
