Again, I've seen tons of criticism pointed at pitchers for this. I don't get where this notion comes from.

    What ARE these narratives?!

It *is* possible to hate someone or something without being jealous or envious of them.

Yet another in a long line of social narratives that have incomprehensibly taken root for whatever reason.

The Rangers used to do the claw and the antler thing a few years ago. I liked that and wished more teams did that.

Verlander tweeted something about it too. I think most MLBers are ticked off with the cheaters.

They need to go to their union reps and push for harsher penalties.
How about along with the 80, 162 and lifetime bans, anyone who gets caught has their contract voided?
            Boom. Done.

I think the process starts really early.
I heard on MLB Tonight that Colabello was notified on March 13th that he failed a test.

At that point, the PA becomes involved and all tests are scrutinized to make sure it's a true failed test.
T's are crossed, and i's are dotted.

So I'm guessing Dee was nailed in Spring Training some time.
Might explain for his slow start. He knew he was going to get waxed at some point.

No just no. No PLAYER union would ever allow that to happen, ever.

All eight of those home runs Dee Gordon hit in the last six years are soooooo tainted now...

Hopefully, this at least somewhat dispels the notion that steroids = ZOMG HOME RUNZZZ!!!!!!11! to the casual fan. Just another guy trying to (illegally) get through the grind of 162.

If that notion hasn't already been dispelled, I don't think this will change anything.

The guys who've gotten nailed haven't been the stars of the game. Braun is the one that sticks out. There's been other varying degrees of recognizable names, but it's not the big hitters getting popped.

Either they aren't on anything or they're one step ahead. Will never know.

I have no sympathy for guys saying they unknowingly ingested a banned substance.

It's no surprise what's on the list. If Gordon or some of these other guys truly didn't know, they have to be extremely gullible people or plain idiots. There's no justification to first of all, take something without knowing what's in it. The kind of damage you could do to your body is enormous if it can kill you. Forget steroids. Think about what you're ingesting. Secondly, you know there are penalties and guys that got caught while claiming they didn't know, so why risk it?

Only thing I can think of is the players don't actually believe the ones that have gotten caught. And because of that, they don't protect themselves.

(Assuming they truly didn't know which I mostly think is bs)

What if a player is signed to a team-friendly deal? Who does voiding it really hurt? The player already loses all salary while suspended. Could another team come in and bid up the voided player and actually result in a larger contract in this hypothetical? Maybe give the team the option to void if they choose to do so. But again, good luck getting that by MLBPA.

Manny Ramirez x2, Alex Rodriguez x2, Rafael Palmeiro, Barry Bonds (heavily implied anyway), Nelson Cruz, Ryan Braun, Miguel Tejada, etc.

Of course a lot more guys that weren't the caliber of hitters that those guys were have been nailed (or heavily implied; The Mitchell Report) but those slugger/star types are the only ones the casual fans remember being popped. Alex Sanchez was the first guy ever nailed and I only remember that because he played for the Rays and I'm a hardcore fan. No casual fan remembers that.

I didn't expect this from Dee Gordon. Maybe I suffer from antiquated thinking but he and Colabello just don't look like PED users. That being said, both have zero sympathy from me. I was thinking I should feel a little sympathy for Colabello but Sportsnet recently did an article talking to a doctor and he basically said it's pretty bloody unlikely that he could've accidentally ingested the drug he was tested positive for.
