Reading about how the Cubs were built, Rizzo is so interesting. Drafted by Theo and Jed in Boston, then Jed goes to San Diego and trades for him, then they're brought into Chicago and trade for him again. Now he's in the MVP conversation and one of the best 1st baseman in the league. Incredible that they saw in him then what he's doing now. Then they signed him to the team friendly deal. Just great work as a front office. Jed was pulling up to any job he was going to like "Alright, first step: get Rizzo"

Only reason I even thought of this was Dombrowski saying he wouldve taken Mo in the expansion draft. Not that I don't believe him, just that it's easy to say now that you would've taken the greatest closer ever in a random draft lol. I'm not sure I've seen an example of a front office attaching themselves to a player in this way, just awesome talent evaluation.

That IS pretty interesting about Rizzo. You'd think the teams that parted with Jed would keep Rizzo to themselves rather than trade him away. It just goes to show that astute scouting and a belief in a player can go a long way.

And to think that you didn't even mention that Rizzo is a cancer survivor like Jon Lester.

I read another SI article about him and how he's the team leader and gets guys together for meals on the road and stuff. He just seems like an incredible person. I would say you guys are lucky to have him, but it clearly wasn't luck that led to this lol.

Rodriguez won't be going to Miami, according to his publicist.
I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season. It’s not happening. Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends.
So there's that. No clown show in Miami, at least not this year.

I didn't know that about Rizzo, much respect to that guy.

Farrell on Jonathan Papelbon "we've talked about it, there's some real strong points to 'Pap' that could be an addition here"

So uh, Papelbon back to the Sox soon? Welp.

This is the first I'm hearing of anyone actually talking about picking him up. I know Jon Lester spoke well about him and said he'd like for him to join the Cubs.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up, if anywhere. But given the most he'll cost a team is $130K, I'm guessing that someone in contention will take a chance on him.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

John Farrell must have a death wish because Pap isn't the guy he used to be and has turned into a cancerous element on any ballclub he joins.

Oh well, i'll enjoy watching him burn if he ends up going back to Boston.

                          Yes on Papelbon.

Also what do you guys think of Zach Britton as an AL Cy Young candidate?

Is that "yes" in the form of "this will get Farrell fired."? :P

It's happened before but i'm not the biggest fan in the world of a reliever winning the Cy Young. I think there are a few viable SP possibilities where I'd be comfortable with one of them winning over Britton. That being said, I won't make a big stink of it if he does end up with the award.

Yes as in I actually want the guy. We need a guy with balls in our bullpen. And Papelbon hadn't been as bad as his old age stats show. Last I saw he had something like a 3.60 FIP. And who do you trust more him or Buckles? Give me Pap all day. So for 150K or whatever I'm more than willing to take a chance on him.

Britton has been near unhittable, I think he should be in serious consideration for it.
