Re: MLB Off-Topic
Even in franchise win%, Jays are at .498. Only White Sox and Pirates who are at .500 (both are about 20 games over or under .500, but technically .500 when rounding to 3 decimal places) are closer. How about that for mediocrity.Comment

He never got any love from the HOF voters, similarly to McGwire, but Bonds did. Its just such a weird debate because yes, we know they cheated, but is it also cheating if it wasn't banned from the league at the time? But Bonds gets recognition almost like a "IF someone from that era is getting into the HOF, it might as well be THE guy from that era to represent it." while everyone else like Sosa and McGwire get lumped into the "other" category. Not that Bonds got in the HOF, but he was obviously real close.
Also seems weird that the Cubs instantly accepted him back the second he said that. Was it their ownership telling him to put out that statement because they wanted to honour him (and pay him) for their 150th season?Last edited by Majingir; 12-19-2024, 06:50 PM.Comment

And Bonds was indeed closer to the Hall than any other suspected user because he was one of the greatest players in baseball history before he allegedly started juicing in '99.
"Clean" Bonds (1986-1998): 99.9 WAR, 3 MVP
"Dirty" Bonds (1999-2007): 62.9 WAR, 4 MVP
McGwire (entire career, 1986-2001): 62.1 WAR, 0 MVP
Sosa (entire career, 1989-2007): 58.6 WAR, 1 MVPOriginally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Hall of famer Rickey Henderson passes away 4 days before his 66th birthday.
One of the baseball records that'll likely never be broken unless the MLB has a SB era in the future like how the NBA is in a 3 point shooting era. Starling Marte is the active leader in his 13 year career and only has about 20% of the SBs that Rickey had.
2nd all time in walks which is crazy to think about as well (and is only 2nd because of *Bonds and all those IBB)
And 1st in runs scored
It's crazy how despite all that, he bounced around so much in his career. 4 different stints in Oakland, Yankees, Jays, Padres, Angels, Mets, Dodgers, Mariners, Red Sox.
Won a WS with Oakland, got traded to the Jays as a deadline rental, won a WS there (he got the ball rolling for that famous Joe Carter HR by leading off the inning with a walk), then went back to Oakland.Comment

Didn't expect that at all. For all I knew he was still playing baseball or softball somewhere.
Reading that I'm currently in a state of unexpressive shock. I imagine it'll hit me later.

Feels like he played so long ago, but also feels like he's younger than I thought he was even though he played until he was 44. I think Miguel Cabrera was the last active player who had ever played with or against Henderson.Comment

Damn
RIP Rickey
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Rickey was the GOAT at drawing walks, stealing bases, and unintentional comedy. A true one of one. I can only hope that a.) Rickey's passing was peaceful, and b.) Rickey had a 3rd-person eulogy prepared.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
