Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat

I acually did. I followed the game till the top of the 12th. After Stynes got a hit and RBI I figured it had to be over.

Castillo did have some great plays. Definintly saved that game a couple times. He has had some great defense there all year, some thing that Bobby Hill doesn't really have.

Yes, Bobby Hill has seemingly become the "also ran" in the contest for the second base job. Though he did have a clutch pinch hit HR last night.

I'll admit it: I almost threw in the towel when Boehringer came into the game. And excuse my language but WHAT THE MOTHER F***ING &%^ %^$$&&% %&^$^&%^$&&%^$^$^!!!!! was he doing cutting off that ball??!???? That's the kind of play a rookie might not even make, let alone an over-the-hill guy like Boehringer. Chalk up another point on the Boehringer Cut-O-Meter*

      Some other random thoughts:

Tike Redman needs time off. Between winter ball, spring training, and this year, I don't think the guy has had time off from baseball in a long while. He's clearly fatigued mentally (getting picked off third, and then that awful dive he made last night). Losing Mondesi complicates things, but I'd be willing to just sit him out a series or so (Bay in center, Mackowiak in left, Wilson in right) to get his head straight.

I didn't know Darryl Ward could play first. If he hits anything like he did in Nashville, Simon may be even closer to having his ticket punched back to Curasao.

Don't get me wrong, I like both of them, but I think Mike Johnston is better than Grabow. I know Mike doesn't have the same pressure situations as Grabow, but Johnston's curveball is absolutely filthy. He reminds me a lot of Sauerbeck only with command.

Boeringer is really doing all he can to get cut from the team. He's really trying. You can't count on him, he isn't a good pitcher and gives up too many runs. I hope that the Get Boehringer Out Of Pittsburgh Assoc. gets it's wish real soon.

I've been behind the idea of sitting Redman for a while. He's beend playing baseball for more that a year straight. Let him sit and rest then see what he was. Because it's getting to the point where if he keeps struggling like this it may be time to give someone else a shot.

Ehh I'm indifferent about Ward. His stats from Nashville look good but I still want to see a little of him. I sure hope he does good so we can get rid of Simon. The only thing he is now is a lefty of the bench, and we can do better than Simon.

Johnson does look better but your right Grabow has been put in a lot more pressure spots. Like in the 8th and men on base. Johnson has been put in some pretty easy spots so far. I still want to see what he can do in a pressure situation.

Let's play two today Bucs. I hope that they get it together and take em both. Plus J.J's in right and Bay's playing left. I really want to see what these two can bring to the table so I hope they show it today.

Johnston just got a double play off of of Todd Helton with runners on the corners. I'd say that counts as a pressure situation

Of course it does. As soon as I say something the Pirates go out and prove me dead wrong.

Well the Pirates are winning 3-1 in the nightcap, but they could be up a lot more. They are killing themselves by not being able to get runners in. They just can't push a run across. Also as much as I like Mackowiak, he isn't cut out to bat 4th. He strikes out too much, he comes up with the bases loaded and whiffs. Gotta get someone else in there to drive in the runs.
