A great come from behind win tonight by the Pirates Daryle Ward hit another homerun (in two games, he's equalled the homerun output of Raul Mondesi -- maybe this situation isn't so bad after all).

Boehringer, of all people, picked up the win. Looks like I have to take a point off of the Official Boehringer Cut-O-Meter. (he still sucks)

Mackowiak hit another homerun as well. If he could ever become even an average contact hitter, he'd be a legit 30+ HR guy.

Yeah a good win tonight. Ward has been a hitting machine since he got called up.

When they brought Boehringer in when the game was tied, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then after he walked the first hitter on 4 straight pitches I thought he'd blow it. To his credit he got the double play and didn't give up the lead. He does suck though....

Finally another good job by Mesa slamming the door. It's so refreshing to have a closer that doesn't make it interesting in the 9th - ala Mike Williams.

Ward looked really good today. Makes the Pirates organization look good in the decision to give him a minor league contract in the offseason. With inuries now he's an experienced player who can come up and help the team. He's not a rookie brought up just to fill a spot like what could have happened.

Vogelsong looked decent tonight. He got out of a couple jams and some good defense helped him pitch a good game. Only 3 strikeouts but I think the better stat is that he had only 2 walks, so he's got his control back.

I like the idea of Bobby Hill at third for now. He's not a long term option but he can man 3rd for a while and he's swinging a good bat and plus his name isn't Chris Stynes. My long term plan would have Castillo playing third next year with Hill/ Sanchez battling for second if their both stil here.

When Bay plays tommorrow I hope either he or Mackowiak is out in center because Tike really needs to sit. He needs some time to rest he must be exausted. Let him sit tommorrow and Sunday, then with the off day Monday Tike should be rested and ready by Tuesday.

Well Mack must be listening because Mackowiaks out in center and Redman sitting.

Go Bucs! I hope Fogg pitches well today.

Well a great road trip by the Bucs. Finished 5-1 on the trip and are heading home to play the Padres on Tuesday.

Kip Wells is still nibbling too much. He only get through 5 innings and has 95 pitches. He's still not attacking the batters and can't finish them off. He gave up 3 walks and was lucky to only give up 1 run. He got some nice defense and the Giants played some bad ball and couldn't get runs across.

Rob Mackowiak is really making me eat crow. Had a couple homers today, a single and drove in 4 runs. He played center again today, I don't think he should be the everyday centerfielder (I still believe in Tike) but he should be in the lineup at 3rd with Stynes riding the bench.

Jason Bay played today which is a good sign. Had a couple nice hits and drove in a run. I still don't think he's 100% comfortable yet, but he's looking a lot better.

And to make Mac feel a whole lot better Nunez went deep in the 9th off Herges. Went deep to right, a little bit more and he might of had a shot at McCovey's cove. I'm sure Mac will have him at 3rd for Tuesdays game after that.

And on a downer did you hear about Pat Maholm? He was pitching last night for Lynchburg and a a screamer came back to the mound. He couldn't get out of the way and it deflected off his glove and hit him in the face. He was lying on the ground for about 15 minutes before he was taken off in a stretcher and ambulance. Reports are that Maholm was in good condition with no life-threatening injuries. Sounds like he broke his nose and possibly has a broken orbital. I just hope that he is alright and has a 100% recovery.

Well it looks like the Pirates front office is getting serious. They gave Mondesi his walking papers, called up Mateo, let Boyd go, have Simon in AAA and have told Stynes and Redman to produce or they won't see the field.

These aren't the type of moves I'm used to seeing the Pirates make. In the past it seemed like the guys making the money would always play. Now the Pirates seem to be looking for production over what a player makes.

I have faith in DL and always have, but it seems like he's really starting to change things up. I hope this is a positive sign of things to come. Now if only this team could win a freaking game at home, then we might have something!!
