Re: 2014 MLB Draft
How is NHLs not exciting? Players/their families in attendance, GM/coach other people part of teams staff go to the stage to announce the pick, then player gets on stage with the GM/Coach and gets his new teams hat and jersey. No other sport has a player put on his teams jersey on stage during the draft. NBA/NFL it's just a guy putting on a hat and that's it.
Not to mention NHL actually has trades announced(that are official) in the middle of the draft. NBA ones are unofficial so guys get drafted by someone who might have already traded them, and NFLs you don't really see blockbuster type of deals with players/draft picks trades on draft day.
And we get things like:

Re: 2014 MLB Draft
I mean, I'd agree that the MLB Draft isn't as exciting as some of the others, but it's not horrible. Sure, it doesn't appeal to casual fans at all because most of these guys are at least two years away from reaching the major leagues. I don't know if it's just because baseball is my favorite sport, or if I'm just stuck on looking towards the future as a Cubs fan, but I actually enjoy the MLB draft.
I think there's good qualities of each of the drafts, but I trades being announced is the only concrete thing that sets the NHL draft apart from the others (for me at least). I know that the players families are at each of the drafts, at least in some capacity. They probably don't play as big of a role, but they're there and in the NFL's case, a big part of the green room. Also:

I'll just go out on a limb here and say if hockey is the draft you are most looking forward to, then you are probably from
If the baseball draft piques your interest more, I am guessing you are from
It doesn't hurt to have a high pick to keep your interest either. Something the Cubs have been very good at lately.......Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2014 MLB Draft
As expected, the Astros select LHP Brady Aiken 1st overall.
Marlins select RHP Tyler Kolek 2nd overall.
White Sox select LHP Carlos Rodon 3rd overall.
Cubs select C/1B Kyle Schwarber 4th overall.
Twins select SS Nick Gordon 5th overall.
Mariners select C/OF Alex Jackson 6th overall.
Phillies select RHP Aaron Nola 7th overall. 4th best pitcher in the draft. I'll take it.Last edited by PhilliesFan13; 06-05-2014, 06:51 PM.Comment

Re: 2014 MLB Draft
eh, the Cubs don't like Kolek as much as the other teams. It's crazy how all of the pitching injuries have changed our views on pitchers. Hearing that he's "too big" and throws "too hard" is just crazy to hear.Comment
