Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
I thought that it was about time we get a pitching prospect back in a trade, but apparently the Cubs had other thoughts. I expected more for Bonifacio, but the fact that he's going to be a FA and Russell doesn't have much value, a T10 prospect from your system is nice. I'm pretty sure we sent cash your way as well.
It's nice to hear something positive about the guy. LolComment

Matt Gelb @MattGelb
Amaro said Phillies did not ask for “top prospects.” Criticized other GMs for not being aggressive enough.

Comic relief from the deadline rumors, courtesy of Jim Bowden.
Jim Bowden panicked.
- He first deleted his twitter photo so @JimBowdenESPNxm had an egg avatar and looked fake.
- He then transferred his account to @JimBowdiv, perhaps thinking no one would find him? (His Marlon Byrd tweet <del>is</del> was still there.)
- His original, @JimBowdenESPNxm account was nuked, but it is now back—with 25 followers at press time. Someone is cybersquatting the account, is using Bowden's old avatar, and is following fake Joel Sherman and no one else.
- And just now, since I've been typing, @JimBowdiv has disappeared. We don't know where Jim Bowden went, and he's probably not going to receive the DMs we sent him. (Update: @JimBowdiv is back. For now. Here's a screengrab of his page, because he's a

Don't think we will either, by the sounds of it.

Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
In a vacuum, when you can trade 1.5 years of Austin Jackson and 4 years (super 2) Drew Smyly for 1.5 years of David Price, you do it. However, the Tigers aren't exactly stacked in the outfield. Maybe in the next month the Tigers can pick up an outfielder or lefty reliever off of waivers, or make a waiver trade. I also think Verlander is coming out of the 'pen Lincecum style in the playoffs. Come in, gas 6 fools, leave.
Still, a 5 man rotation of Price, Scherzer, Sanchez, Porcello and Verlander even puts the 90s Braves ones to shame. These 5 guys could collectively (if Scherzer is resigned) put up nearly 30 WAR next year. That's more than some teams do as 25 men.
After the Garza and Shields trades, I thought the Rays could get more than Nick Franklin and Drew Smyly. With Franklin coming in, do they consider moving Zobrist in the offseason? Still, they keep managing to peddle pitchers including Garza (Archer), Shields (Odorizzi), Price (Smyly) into more pitchers and them add some in the draft.
I think Seattle did well. Jackson fills a hole in center field and Nick Franklin had no spot with Cano there.
I don't even know what to say about the Marlins Astros trade. We'll judge it in ten years.Last edited by rdnk; 07-31-2014, 04:57 PM.Comment

Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
Bullpen still sucks. Outfield still sucks (and is worse now). Defense still sucks.
Unless the starting rotation plans on throwing CG shutouts every game in the postseason, I simply can't get psyched about the Price trade. This team has grated on my nerves all season long; one of the most unenjoyable seasons in recent memory.
The bullpen will suck less in a playoff series since adding Price to the rotation means Porcello (or even Verlander) goes to the bullpen.I write things on the Internet.

I know I'm alone on this but I really like Parra deal to Milwaukee... Very solid 4th OF, will be able to give Davis, Gomez or Braun a game off anytime.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment
