I remember a few days ago they compared Kershaw's season with Koufax's '63 season when he won the MVP and Cy Young. Amazingly, the numbers were pretty similar with Kershaw putting up some better numbers than Koufax.

Personally, I think it'd be a crime if Kershaw doesn't get the MVP. Without him and the impact he has for the Dodgers they wouldn't be nearly as good as they are. It'd be a little harder if there were more than one offensive player with an MVP type season (Stanton) but since it's basically Stanton and nobody else offensively than you HAVE to give the award to Kershaw.

1999 Pedro put up Kershaw's 2014 numbers in the designated-hitter league, during the height of baseball's offensive explosion, and pitching in the AL East and facing the dynasty Yankees multiple times a year.

The era difference is especially huge. There are two qualified hitters in MLB with OBPs above .400. The 1999 Cleveland Indians had five qualified hitters with OBPs above .400.

Kershaw has had a top 10/15 pitching season all time, but 1999 Pedro is basically as good as pitching gets.

I was thinking about that, and without looking at stats, that's what made the difference in my mind between the two seasons.

What Pedro did that year.....there just aren't any words.

I disagree, he's been so good though. Stupid Good. Stanton has been equally as good which is why it's a great race, imo. should be great down the stretch.

They'd probably be in 1st place.

3 years ago if you had told me the Orioles would have the division pretty much locked up by mid September, I would've lol'd so hard...and now here we are.

Too bad the west is so dominant. I don't know how the playoff matchups look right now but if the O's take on a western division opponent they're going to be the underdog.

Let's see what "Big Game" James has for Detroit tonight. Porcello went through the 1-3 hitters with no problem... not off to a good start.

I'd be VERY shocked if they finish this game in the Motor City.

                              EDIT: I stand corrected
