so i guess the lakers of the mlb arent satisfied huh? i think yankee fans should be the last ones talking bout needing to acquire a player. you pretty much damn near have gotten every mvp candidate in the AL already. but knowing the yankees, and their selfsih owner, my guess is that it ill happen. hopefully beltran wont sell out on his career and go somewhere else.

Yeah I think everyone and their grandmother can agree on is that the one thing that all Yankees fans want above all else is to see Beltran land somewhere other than Bostan.
True that Giambi has been feeling better and has been playing a lot of first as of late but still it's a long season and with the way his knee has been the last couple years it wouldn't take a lot for it to act up again. And if it does act up you lose a big bat in the lineup. Or it pushes a lot onto Joe Torre's plate. He then has to face the question does he DH Giambi and sit Bernie? I don't think he will because he sorta has a conncetion with the "core" players that got him to the Series in '98 Rivera, Bernie, Jeter and Posada. So it's nice to have an open spot where he can put a player, espically one with Giambi's bat, and keep him in the lineup.
One other thing is that if the Yanks are able to keep Giambi at DH having Tony Clark is not the end of the world. He's got a good glove and still has some pop in his bat. Plus I believe he's a switch hitter, not sure but I thought he was. Plus with the way that all the other Yankees are hitting right now they can more than provide for one spot in the order. Plus with the DH spot the Yankees can rotate and keep people fresh. They can give everyone a breather without pushing a big bat out of the lineup.
Scott Boras(who does seem to be the agent for everybody) almost always has his players hit free agency. If ANY team can get him to sign an extension before they trade them the stakes are upped because now he's just not a rental. But with the Yankees money they can afford to wait for him to become a free agent. They would miss out on him for 3 months but they would get to keep some of their prospects who they could use in other trades or call up and use.
The biggest concern for the Yankees right now has definatly got to be the pitching. Like I said before I would only jack up the price in the Beltran trades but devote most of my time to getting a pitcher. Garcia is going to be hard to get because everyone wants him and other teams can give more from their minor leagues to get him than the Yanks. I would look for Moyer or Benson other pitchers who they could pick up but won't have to clear the farm teams to get. Plus the Yankees also need a lefty out of the pen but no one of the top of my head comes to mind.
Gettign El Duque back will be a huge boost. I've heard he's slowly getting his speed back and should be ready pretty soon. He is a guy who can be a long reliever out of the pen or be a starter someone of quality the Yankees haven't had this year. It may take him a while to get back to form when he's in the majors but come September he should be a big shot in the arm.
No doubt that the Beltran would put the Yankees over the top for a ring but right now and the situation that their in I think the Yankees should play for pitching and wait for next year to sign him.Comment

Can't argue with anything you said. And you were exactlly right about Torre having a connection with his '98 vets, especially if you've watched as many Yankeeographys as I have.
I would also, on a moral level, rather have Bernie in then Beltran, but if this deal got done I guess Cashman and Torre would have to pray Giambi held up for the year.
Also since Torre and Cashman are so tight he wouldn't take on Beltran if he knew Torre would be put in a spot where he'd have to decide between Bernie and Beltran if Giambi couldn't hold up.
Also, maybe now that Contreras's family is here (who were released to Torre's family which I think is great) maybe he'll pitch better. If El Duque can get back to his '98 form then we'll be in great shape and can send Contreras to the pen as a long reliever which we need.
We desperately need a lefty in the pen because Felix Heredia isn't too reliable to come in and face lefties and Gabe White was just traded back to the Reds for Charlie Manning who was drafted at Pitcher by the Yanks in 2001.

Yup a lefty in the pen and a starter is what I think the Yankees really need to be completely solid. Although with El Duque later in the year they could probably scrape by but it wouldn't be pretty. I've heard a couple times that when it's all said and done that Moyer will be a Yankee. He has two years left on his contract, he'll definatly waive his 10 and 5 to go to the Yankees and has a good playoff record so he would fit nicely. Plus it wouldn't take an overwhelming amount to get him from the M's . The lefty though, I can't really think of anyone who's on the market that would fit them. I'm sure they'll find someone but none are coming to mindComment

I'm sure they'll find someone but none are coming to mindComment

No doubt that the Beltran would put the Yankees over the top for a ring but right now and the situation that their in I think the Yankees should play for pitching and wait for next year to sign him.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Yup a lefty in the pen and a starter is what I think the Yankees really need to be completely solid. Although with El Duque later in the year they could probably scrape by but it wouldn't be pretty. I've heard a couple times that when it's all said and done that Moyer will be a Yankee. He has two years left on his contract, he'll definatly waive his 10 and 5 to go to the Yankees and has a good playoff record so he would fit nicely. No offense but you made no valid points to backup anything you said.
First, George Steinbrenner isn't selfish. He's just the opposite. What you don't understand is Steinbrenner may be making the same amount of money per year as another large market team, take the Dodgers for instance, but spending more on his own team to ensure victory.
Lets say for the sake of arguement that the Yankees and Dodgers organization both take in $350 million each year. Instead of pocketing his money and counting his cash, Steinbrenner spends $200 a year on the team's payroll, leaving $150 million for himself (lets exclude other costs such as the stadium, luxury tax, revenue sharing, etc. just so I can make my point)
Now the Dodgers owner who actually may be "selfish" is spending lets say $90 million a year and pocketing $260 million for himself.
So you say Steinbrenner is selfish for caring about winning and actually taking money out of his own pocket to get players, when other owners don't care about winning as much as all there doing is raking in the cash.
Second you say Beltran will be "selling out his career" buy going to the Yankees. I'm 99.9% positive that a player like Beltran would galdly accept (through free agency lets say) $20 million from the Yankees and a chance to win a ring over the Rockies (as a stupid example) offering him $25 million.
I don't see how wanting to win is "selling out."
Maybe you enjoy participating on losing teams though, but I think Beltran would prefer to win.

Yeah on ESPN they said Moyer would waive his 10- and- 5 "in a heatbeat" to get on the Yankees. The problem is there are no real lefties on the block that I can think of at the moment, as a starter or in the pen.
I heard sometime earlier in the season the Yanks were after J.C. Romero from the Twins who is a very good middle relief pitcher but I haven't heard anything about him in months.
