Arrayo is a pretty iffy picture. One night he's on the next night he'll give up Derek Lowe numbers of 6 runs in 3 innings. He lost control of his stuff. A-Rods the instigator in this situation. I'm just happy that Variteck pie faced him. =)

Let me say that Gabe Kapler is a beast, and I wouldn't want to be stuck in an alley with him.

Re: yanks and sox fight again

I believe Arroyo is the leading the league in hit batters (or right up there near the top) so I'm not convinced it was intentional. If it was intentional I doubt it was for ARod's performance last night but retaliation for Gordon hitting Nomar, which looked intentional.

I don't know what fight people were watching, but Varitek had Arod pretty much on the ground by the time the teams swarmed around them. In a fight, I'd put money on Varitek against a lot of players in the game. As far as not removing his mask, I doubt he was really thinking about it in the heat of the moment and why would he? The man isn't stupid. And Sturtze got a pretty decent beating and a much deserved one, what was he thinking? He comes running into the fray and singles out Gabe Kapler? What for? And he put a good choke hold on him too that drew some obvious attention and we all know the outcome.

It's my opinion that Varitek, the unnofficial team leader, wanted to light a fire in this team that is finally showing some character. They battled to come from behind last night only to fall short and they did the same today, only they won. They're still sitting pretty in the Wild Card race but they need to start playing better to take control of it and get to October. If the Red Sox can get to October I think they'll be big favorites so long as Martinez and Schilling are pitching well and Randy Johnson stays in Arizona.

Yeah, big tough guy catcher with all his equipment on. What happened to "Cowboy Up"? Last I saw, Varitek was in a headlock getting taken to the ground.

Varitek didn't have Arod on the ground. And I've never seen a Catcher fight with any of his equipment on, besides his chestplate. Any situation a catcher gets into, his first motion is to throw off his mask.

Sturtze got scratched on the side of his head by Ortiz and that looked like 3 on 1 to me, so yeah, he got handled.

You know what, say what you want to say about Steibrenner. Fine. But the Yanks as players (besides Clemens) have been pretty classy over the past 6 years or so.

The Red Sox have initiated every fracas that has taken place.

Sturtze was absolutely justified to go into that next inning and wing one into someone's chest, but he didn't.

The amount of big games this season where Sheff's been hit is up there. Arod was ice cold in the earlier series vs. the BoSox and he finally gets it going and- BOOM. But he's the instigator? Please.

One other thing- the game where Pedro purposely drilled Sheff and Sheff had his bat in his hand yelling back, did Varitek get into a cursing match with him as he walked to 1st? No.

Sheff would've rocked his world. Don't give me that stuff about leaders and all that. He thought he could get off on Arod.

Re: yanks and sox fight again

They've now shown the brawl about 8 times on Baseball Tonight in the first ten minutes, no where is Varitek on the ground, but Arod ends up on the ground getting pulled away from the fray. Varitek had Arod in a suplex hold but he couldn't get him off the ground enough. 'Tek just did what a catcher/leader should do. Only the whining Yankee fans are taking offense to this fight.

If you watch the replay, clearly ARod says a four-letter word and then some to Arroyo and then Varitek fires back and gets a full mouth from ARod. You fling around the four letter word, and then tell the guy to come on, you're gonna get it and he did. Grow up and watch some baseball, this is a part of the game.

As for Sheff and Pedro, Sheff got cute and Pedro wasn't gonna have it. Thats what the good pitchers do. And Varitek did walk with Sheff part way down the line but alls Sheff said was "You don't do that to me," and never appeared serious about doing anything about getting hit.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkay. Yeah, Varitek had him in a suplex.

Anyways, I'm sure Varitek has heard worse over his career and if the Yanks are whiny then that's cool, because we're whiny Division Leaders and World Champions.

Never seen a Yankee crying on his own bench after a game...in July of all months.

If Varitek had an ounce of the leadership abilities of Derek Jeter, he may be something. But he's nothing. He's got no balls.

Stuff like this makes the end of the year that much more gratifying. You just better hope that the Commissioner one day realigns the divisions so maybe you'll have a shot to win something. Anything.

                              It must suck being subpar.
