I haven't gone through with a fine toothed comb, but I have found most of the best hitters missing from one of those categories. The area where he beats most other hitters is triples and strikeouts. Most people don't know that Stan struck out less than Williams over his career in 3000 more at bats. I would say he and Ted Williams would be right there with each other if each had gotten uninterrupted careers. Add another 210 hits to Musial's total and another 560 to Williams and that about shakes it out. Obviously factor in everything else. But to hit .331 over 12500 plate appearances is an unbelievable feat.

I'm just giving you a hard time. Ted Williams is my dude, and I'll defend him until my last breath lol.
Musial is definitely one of the best of all-time. I just wish the one meeting between the two sluggers went better for my liking.Boston Red Sox

Re: Who is your starting 9 of all-time?
C: PUDGE RODRIGUEZ is scratched for JOE MAUER
1B: LOU GEHRIG
2B: JACKIE ROBINSON
3B: PIE TRAYNOR
SS: LUKE APPLING or CAL RIPKEN JR. (love them both equally)
LF: JOE DIMAGGIO
CF: WILLIE MAYS
RF: KEN GRIFFEY JR.
DH: TED WILLIAMS
SP: CY YOUNG
SP: GREG MADDUX
SP: OREL HERSHISER
SP: SANDY KOUFAX
CP: MARIANO RIVERA
Bench Coach: ROBERTO CLEMENTE
Clemente, what a man, way too tragic the world and baseball lost him... Had no place for him on the field but since a four man rotation I figured the bus was not full and no more a deserving human there never was.
Note on CY YOUNG though I once read he never had a season which was good enough to win the award named after him... which I am not so sure is true. But regardless he does not need days off or warm up and that will keep the game moving and my rotation short
OF note: I believe those three could play any spot in the OF sorry if it was supposed to be specific
Note on DIMAGGIO... barely has more strike outs than homers, at least once went yard more than striking out in a season... who does that? Can not imagine facing a hitter who is more apt to take you deep than strike out.
Note on Jr. he is not the best CF or OF but is my favourite all time player.
Note on Robinson maybe not the best second-baseman but what he accomplished, as baseball noted by retiring his number everywhere, is more than numbers.
Note on SS's they are both tough ironmen who cared about fans!
Note on Pudge, Ivan may not be the best but I grew up watching him and love the guy! Sorry Pudge but everyday Joe is a one team player and those eyes oh my those blue eyes! A girl loves quality catching but not as much as piercing blue eyes and a dreamy smile, combined with quality catching and loyalty.
Too many honerable mentions to name and this list can change daily depending on what memories or stories from my grandfather come to mind... Almost an impossible task to select an all-time nine!Last edited by SpritePuck; 05-04-2015, 07:57 PM. Reason: Pudge Rodriguez got scratched for Joe Mauer and those baby blues of his...Comment

Yes, but you said power and OBP at each position...Omar was a liability with the bat except in a few years. Just didn't match up with your stated goal IMO..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. .275/365 BA/OBP in his prime is nothing to scoff at and its better than Smith.Comment

Re: Who is your starting 9 of all-time?
He had one season (1999) with an OBP > .365 and had a career OPS+ of 82. I have a hard time picking him or Ozzie over Wagner or Ripken. Heck, I'd probably take Jeter over Omar/Smith."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do.
