Please stay far away Theo & Jed and hang onto those prospects down on the farm!

Cubs need an ace? Cueto for Russell and Schwarber totally seems fair.

I wish the Reds could play Milwaukee 100 times this year. It'd be the only way they make the playoffs.

I wanted to give Fredi one more chance this year, but after a game like tonight, he has no business being the manager of the Braves. He's accomplished absolutely nothing since coming to Atlanta other than fielding teams year in and year out that always collapse.
I'm not even sure how that team is 10-10... Fredi will stay - why pay 2 managers in a year you've blown up the team?

As for Salty, he makes too much sense for the M's. He can give Zunino theday off against tough righties, and maybe play twice a week. It would help Zunino out a bunch, I would imagine. Perhaps send them a Tyler Pike, who seems to have hit a wall in the minors.

I'm not sending them anything for a catcher who used to be able to hit and never was able to throw

The more I think of this...the more I think that Theo would not deal any of his A/B level prospects and go for the "juggernaut". He's made such progress developing the farm system and stacking up players so it makes no sense to throw it away for a 1-2 year player to make a playoff push -- especially after the franchise's stance on Bryant.

I don't have a horse in this race. But I want to comment a couple of things here. Going to Bryant out the way right off the bat. What difference does it make? I'm going to guess that 95% of the teams in the MLB do this every year. They send their top prospect down to the minors even if he is ready. Hell the Red Sox did it with Swihart, he is 10X better than Sandy Leon and he is still in Pawtucket. But that is for a little different reason, so he can everyday at bats. But one could argue that Swihart could be in the majors and be getting a start every other day.

Now on Cueto. I would not trade Russell for Cueto either. But if the Cubs are in the hunt for either the division or a WC spot, I am finding another ace to put me over the hump. The only sure thing in the playoffs in that rotation is Lester. Now you put Lester and Cueto in a playoff rotation along with Arrieta and someone else you look like a WS contender. As a Sox fan, Lester can anchor a playoff rotation but he does need help from the offense like we found out last year in Oakland. Also Theo is great at building a farm system. He signed/drafted most of the top prospects on the Red Sox including Betts, Swihart, Vazquez, Bogaerts, Margot. And on the Cubs they have drafted Bryant, Almora, Schwarber. Also he drafted guys like Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, and Dustin Pedroia.

I don't think Hamels makes sense for the Cubs. They're making a lot of progress with their kids and I get the feeling that Theo and Jed believe this team is actually a year or two away. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one and maybe two of the A/B level prospects are gone in a year or two for veteran help/player for the stretch run. That's the reason you stockpile on prospects other than them making an impact on your team they're also the easiest trade chips to get bigger name players to your roster.

As a radio host here in Toronto said a month or so ago, the Cubs have SO MANY prospects that they can afford 2 or 3 to bust or in the context of what we're speaking about, if one or two are traded away.

Exactly I see the Cubs as a team that mirrors the Red Sox a little when Theo got there. They have a ton of good prospects and can afford to ship them out for proven MLB talent. And with Theo and Jed there the prospects will keep rolling in even if they are drafting lower in the first round or not in the first at all. They were great at finding talent later in the first round and those supplemental rounds or whatever they were called for you losing your own FAs.
