Did anyone ask the Yanks to forfeit any games after 9/11?? Its the same principle, an emergency and a time when you should be with your family first and think about a ballgame second.
Why would this happen???

Re: Why would this happen???
Randy Levine is a moron, so I'm not surprised by this at all. Devil Rays shouldn't have to forfeit.
But MLB also handled it horribly. They shouldn't "suggest" that Tampa leave on Friday and then not stand by it a few days later. They either should stay out of it, or order the D'Rays to leave on Friday. Not say one thing one day, and change tunes a few days later.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Why would this happen???
I guess the Yankees need all the help they can get since Boston is coming in strong. If they're a good enough team they shouldn't be asking for a forfeit. No reason to do so. Just reschedule the game... don't force a team to forfeit just because of some Natural Disaster that occured while they were home for the series against the Tigers (in which they only played on game I may add).Comment

Re: Why would this happen???
This whole situation has been a P.R. nightmare for the Yankees, they really come off looking like a bunch of insensative S.O.B.'s, however, a resolution has been made and the two will play a doubleheader wednesday. This situation is just another reason to hate the Yankees. this was a classless act by a classless organization.Comment

Anyways my post on this yesterday was very wrong. I was just stressed from a long crapppy day.
But I do think the Yankees... D-Rays and MLB all screwed up. The Yanks shouldn't have asked for a forfeit but it was rediculous how they were never told what was going on or whatever.
The D-Rays were asked to leave on Friday before the storm and MLB even offered to finance some flights for the players families as well. If they wanted to help their families out...why stay there with them when they could've moved them into a safe place.
Then the D-Rays couldv'e left at 8 AM on Monday when the airport reopened but decided to stay at Tropicana field to practice or whatever. It really put the Yanks and their fans in a confusing situation.
MLB should've just ordered them to leave on Friday... and now they shouldn't be denying that they ever asked them to leave just to save face.
All 3 really screwed up but baseball is just a game.... these are peoples lives we're talking about. The Yankees shouldnt have asked for a forfeit but if a lot of fans went home disgruntled and the Yanks wanted some compensation. But they were still wrong.
But I don't thin the Yanks should be made out as villanous as they have for this. Think about it... I was at the night game and there was only 25,000 there. They lost 25,000 in concessions....parking... and then another 45,000 free tickets are being given out to another game. Just because the Yanks have a lot of money...doesn't mean they don't care when they lost 1.5 million on someone elses decision.
Anyone else agree?
