That's a real head scratcher, were those comments recorded because the only thing I can think of is this is some sportswriter totally misquoting Mackanin.

Good job A's! And hope Cleveland can win it in extras!

I really do dislike Chris Johnson.

Ironically, I'm able to rake with the guy in MLB:TS.

Unless Kershaw and Greinke go 8 innings in every postseason game, the Dodgers probably won't make it out of the first round with this awful bullpen.

Last night was the A's AL leading 14th shutout. This team is such an enigma.

It's weird to see stats like that. A's are 6th in ERA and 12th in runs scored among entire MLB, but are around bottom of the AL. They're the only team in top 13 of ERA who is below .500

I don't know the exact number but the telling stat is the astronomical amount of one run games they've lost.

Their win % in 1 run games is historically bad the last time I saw it.

Maybe SABR-heads can invent a way to count those less.

Leading the league in errors doesn't help either.

That tells into the 20 bullpen losses too. Win half those and they'd be 58-50 and one or two games behind the Astros.

If you strip out sequencing effects/being terrible in high leverage situations (neither of which are very predictive), Oakland's one of the best teams in baseball.

It was one of the best bullpens in the game in April/May and now it's a dumpster fire.

I don't care for the routine where we get 9-10 hits, a few walks, and score 2-3 runs, like last night. Runner stranding has been a problem this year. We're 5th in team OPS and 14th in runs scored per game. Granted, that's random variation/bad luck more than anything else, but it's been a serious problem.

I agree but I feel like hitting with runners in scoring position has been our downfall for two years now. We were coming up with creative ways bit to score yesterday though.
