I gave my grandparents my Phillies tickets tonight as a birthday gift. Wouldn't you know it, my grandmother gets a foul ball in my seat. I have had those seats for the last 2 years and never even sniffed a foul ball.

He may be playing a role but I think like any role there's a kernel of truth (as he sees it) to it. I don't think he's nearly as buffoonish in real life as he comes across on TV. There have been guys who look pretty bad in some respects but who in real life are quite smart. A classic example is the recently departed Frank Gifford during his days when he was the PBP guy for MNF. He would often misquote stats or player/coaches' names but in reality he was a guy that took very meticulous notes and be well prepared. It just never came across that way on TV.

Anywho, WAR IS a theoretical stat though I wouldn't go so far as to say it's fake.

Well, if he is "smart" in his private life it doesn't really matter because what I consume on TV is his stupidity. The only thing for which he stands out (positively) is explaining field positioning when analyzing plays, like for example when they use the in studio diamond field.
