Ugh, Bryan Mitchell just took one off the side of his face.

In will come the conversation again regarding protection for the pitchers.

I didn't get to see it outside of a mini player on my computer in real-time though, so I'm curious... would have a padded hat/helmet prevented this one at all, or was it just right on his face and nothing more? Because if it's the latter, so much for people trying to say that certain protection would have helped him.

This one looked more of a face impact than head. There was a ton of blood.

It looked like it grazed the side of his face, so there was really nothing one those hats or anything we've heard that's been proposed would have done here. The only thing that would have helped in this case is some sort of facemask.

Just bad luck. The ball was literally buzzing by his face before he knew it.

The ball got his cheek and it looked like he was bleeding from the mouth. Some teeth may have been rearranged.

Ouch. Poor guy, that was always my biggest fear when pitching, getting hit in the face. I've been hit in the leg and once in the arm (I stupidly tried to get the ball with my bare hand)

Cubs OFF today and can lick their wounds from battling Chris Sale. Joe Maddon gets to change his socks. 7 game homestand upcoming.

Short 2-game set vs DET, Braves in town for 4, makeup game against the Tribe and then off to the West Coast for the last time this season.

Then an interesting September. Cards and Pirates both 2x and a sea of bad teams around those series.

Baltimore wins, so all we can do is keep pace with the second WC. And I m worried about Texas, they're a hot team.

We're rallying in the seventh however. Tied the game back up, 1st and 3rd, 1 out.

Small nasal fracture from Mitchell. Good thing there wasn't any reported concussion.

We're at about 3 hours 20 minutes in this game, and we're in the top of the 7th.

Lots of missed opportunities for the Pirates tonight, Cole less than stellar.

Thank goodness...It could've been much much worse.

Watching MLB Network live look-in where Fein (Twins) is facing Beltran with the bases loaded.

Harold Reynolds: He balked! Can we get that again?
...MLBN shows the sequence again in slow-mo...

Greg Amsinger: I'm not seeing it, Harold.
Harold Reynolds: Well you can't watch it in slo-mo.
                            Greg Amsinger: What'd he do...sniff?

It was...interesting....watching the A's outfield defense. Really surprised we got anything going with Gray pitching.
