The Rangers and MLB are going to suffer big time if this thing goes to court.
I remember when the Southside fans wondered out on the field at "the Joan" those couple of times. I think both times the players went out there to beat on the player. I objected to this. It was over the top...in both cases the guy was drunk/high afterall. It wasnt really necessary for 20 ballplayers to take turns kicking the fan who attacked the umpire/coach. People scoffed at this notion saying the fan got what he deserved and now theres this. You may say that the situations were different but in both scenarios the ballplayer(s) should have let security do their jobs and not tried to deal with crowd control themselves. Back then, MLB could have taken a stance to discourage it (even though the fans were wrong to wonder out on the field) but Selig acquiesced or was simply oblivious to the potential pitfall of tolerating this mindset.

I blame the fans for this crap. There's a fine line between heckling and just downright pissing the person/team off. Same happened with Nevin in Philadelphia, one guy was giving his crap and Phil finally had enough and gave the guy a taste of his own medicine. That same moron would then go and say Phil yelled at him in frustration on striking out and cursing at him and his daughter for no reason when really he aggravated Phil. You go beyond heckling to someone and don't expect nothing to happen.

With this stuff happening all over the league I'm surprised that more incidents like this aren't happening.

Well.. i feel that all sports players no matter what sport should be above this.. the fans have a right to say what they want when they want to whom they want.. the players shouldnt care about what the fans say... they should ignore it... they should be above this... if i was playing i wouldnt care what people that dont know me say about me my family my culture whatever it doesnt matter... the fans pay good money to be able to come to the yard watch a game and say what they want...

I disagree. A fan can say what he or she wants...until it gets personal. Talk about a player's game all you want, but leave the personal crap out.

                  Example:

About ten years ago at a game between the Houston Rockets and Portland Trailblazers, a fan supposedly said something about Vernon Maxwell's dead daughter. Maxwell proceeded to go into the stands and whoop some ***.

And I didn't blame him AT ALL. Matter fact, I prolly would have killed the dude.

The key there is that Maxwell whipped the guy's butt that said it. Not smack the guy that said it and slap the woman sitting two seats to his left as well.

It's one thing to stand up for yourself, but to throw a chair into a crowd and smash some innocent woman's face in is unacceptable. What if it had been your wife/girlfriend/mother that was hit by a flying chair and the only thing she was guilty of was spending $35 on a field level seat.

Apparently Brocail was the target of the heckler's attack and Francisco came from the dugout to get involved. No matter what anyone says he was way out of line and should be punished by MLB and the legal system.

Oh, I agree with what you're saying. I'm just saying that it's not OK for a fan to say ANYTHING he or she wanted just because they paid to watch a game. There is a line that should not be crossed.

Apparently the woman was the girlfried of the guy who was heckling the pitcher... its one thing to heckle "politely" (ie "you suck, my mom can hit better than you), but another once your heckles get personal.. it is also clearly wrong to throw objects at people... it also looks like a civil case will be filed... i also heard comments an eyewitness) being made about Buck Showalter, but did not see what was said.. does anyone know anything??
