So in the 9th at Yankee stadium my buddy sitting in the seat next to me got a foul ball. We were in the 300 section on the 1st base side.

It looks like Javy has closed up a bit, and he's taken the leg kick out unless he's ahead in the count. I didn't see it at all in his first two ABs and have only really seen it on the 3-1 pitch he tried to send to Mars against Chapman. His ABs have looked fantastic though, especially when he's down in the count. Even the first AB with the fly out, you could tell he cut down and was focused more on contact than hitting it a mile. With his bat speed, his "contact swing" can still drive the ball well.

Addy's hustle was great, but he needs to run through the bag rather than lunging like that. He could've snapped his ankle or blown out a knee pretty easily.

I've had my share of batting practice balls, two home run balls, one ball tossed to me after an inning and one foul ball. I think Sportsforever watched me catch the foul ball (I was right next to the SD dugout and he was in the upper deck behind me), or at least he was at the same game haha.

Yes, I believe Marty Pevey said Javy was focused on hitting the ball 400 feet instead of 700 feet. He looks a lot smoother up there right now and is making pretty effortless contact/not coming out of his shoes swinging at garbage. I also noticed that he's a bit more closed with that front foot really digging in toward the plate.

I care. It's a race for 1st pick! It's all the excitement some of us have left this year.

              I'm hoping the A's score a top 5.

Mariners back to 6 GB, starting a 4-game series with Texas. We've won five in a row, hopefully Guti and Cruz are good to go tomorrow. We need them.

Shawn O'Malley (former Angel) has been hot since he was included in our first round of September call-ups. He's hitting like over .800 (SSS) with a HR and a SB. Wish he'd been up sooner if he can hit like this. Even if the dude hit .250 over a whole season, I'd take him as a bench player over guys like Romero (another Sept. call up)

Jays are back in Boston but I don't foresee another massacre. The Sawx are playing better baseball and could really be a spoiler. Here's hoping the Jays can keep their focus and win these games.

Hittrackeronline.com has it at 467 feet, which I am more inclined to believe.

I think it doesn't seem to come to realization that it made impact with the scoreboard less than 400 feet away from home plate. Wrigley has the shallowest LCF in all of baseball, and those bleachers are plenty steep. There is a created illusion of it being a monstrous blast (which it was, no doubt), but when you hit it somewhere like Comerica it looks like... ehh a pretty good HR, but still not the farthest.

It basically has it hitting around the base of one of the buildings beyond Waveland Ave. If it went at ~500 feet, it would have hit higher off the building's facing. I don't have a picture with Wrigley's scoreboard in place, but even as high as it hit off it it, imagine how far it really has to be hit to go through every obstructing facade and land about 500 feet away from home plate. This one would not have done that.

Doesn't make it any less impressive, but it's still not the longest HR this year. I don't know where other sites (particularly MLB.com which uses Statcast) got their 495 foot projection.

Giancarlo Stanton's 483 foot blast on June 23rd is still the farthest of the year, and I am inclined to believe that. Here's the shot, tracker, and an image as a reference point on if it fell to the ground, it would have gone out of the stadium.

                                <iframe src='http://m.mlb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=191055283&topic_id=6479266&w idth=400&height=224&property=mlb' width='400' height='224' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>

If that doesn't convince you, it was even lower elevation and 5 MPH faster speed off bat in a closed park (perhaps that contributes to the distance, but it doesn't make it any shorter, that's for sure).

Speaking of which, take a look at what J.P. Arencibia just did with his blast at Comerica. It's currently estimated at 464 feet, and looks every bit as crushed as Bryant's home run. Randy Wolf's reaction says it all.

                                (NSFW language warning from Wolf)

                                <iframe src='http://m.mlb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=461145183&topic_id=6479266&w idth=400&height=224&property=mlb' width='400' height='224' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>

Nothing yet on Hittrackeronline.com for this until tonight or tomorrow, but this was basically where it landed up in the stands (impact is above the ground), so 464 feet is very believable. Again, compared to Bryant's they are essentially the same thing. Don't let a scoreboard fool you into where the ball was hit, look at the range wings.

Essentially, if you put an overlay around Wrigley and include Arencibia's hit, the green shows you about where the ball would have landed if it was at Wrigley (going through structures and all) compared to that of Bryant's.

As you can see, Wrigley has a very small CF area. I just don't know where the 495 number comes from. I would have loved to see such a blast, but it just didn't happen yesterday. Why am I so defensive about this? No vendettas against Bryant (if you've seen any posts I've made about him besides in the HRD you'd know that I love the guy), but he didn't hit the farthest HR this year and I'd like that to be heard. Arencibia hit one just as impressive minutes ago, yet no one will give it mention because he doesn't have the "name" or the ball didn't hit a scoreboard, yet he probably would have taken out his own face on the screen if he was at Wrigley. They have to adjust that so that credit is owed where it is due.
