He made it clear to the media and the fans that he does not want to break Aarons record and no matter what happens he says that he always wants the fans to know that Aaron was the best there was. I dont see how that is selfish at all. He is a caring guy, i know because i've lived in SF my whole life and watch this guy for the last 10 years. He's not a jerk.

I've found only people outside of the San Francisco Bay Area say that Barry is a jerk. It's probably just because they're jealous they don't have the best baseball player ever on their team.

But really who cares how nice he is to the media? As long as he's not a criminal I don't care what kind of personality he has because he is an incredible ball player. Plus, it seems like he gets along well with the local media.

I really don't get why people boo him or hate him when if they were playing for their team they'd be cheering and defending him. Ever since I was told that he wanted to play for the Padres when the Padres actually had players other than Tony Gwynn in the mid-90's made me just brush off everything I had against him, knowing damn well that if things went differently that Padres fans would be in the same situation with Giants fans.

I have no problem with a guy who doesn't really get along with the clubhouse or a guy who gets pissed off because he's competitive... good thing Bonds is in SF or San Diego fans (unlike me) would not appreciate him... based on what crap they give to Nevin because of his attitude despite what he has done for the team.

Re: call him a jerk and a jackass

The problem with Barry and the media and his bad attitude stems back to his days with the Pirates. He's never been able to wash himself of that label even though he was a relatively young adult at the time.

While he was with the Pirates he was a very good player, but not kind to the media, fans and his teammates. There are some long stories of Bonds and Van Slyke or Bonds and Jeff King getting into it pretty bad in the clubhouse on numerous occassions (fist fights and war of words). I recall him calling Van Slyke some deragatory racial slurs. Anyhow, it seemed anytime there was a problem in the clubhouse, Barry was somehow involved.

I met him on 2 occassions while he was with the Pirates and can say that he wasn't the most pleasant person to be around. Granted both times were after games and I'm sure he was tired, but to say he was rude would be an understatement.

However, it seems he's matured over the years (just like all people do). Watching him in the HR derby and at other times on TV, his attitude is a 180% turn from what it was with the Pirates.

I've been aroound the guy a few times, and he is a tool. But he's a great player. As far as greatest of all time, I don't know tough to compare players from different era's.

I don't know if he's the greatest enhancement free player of all time, but he's the best player I have ever seen. Although if he didn't throw like a girl the Pirates would have had one WS appearance.

although i'm not surprised at the accusations, players HAVE known to have one "career" year throughout baseball. Look at Brady Anderson and Davey Johnson.

Bond is the second greatest to Josh Gibson.

I have a hard time understanding, why people think they own these athletes, and should dictate what and how they should act.

So what if his teamates did not like him, what's the point.

Do you like your boss? Do you like the people you work with?

Barry Bonds is amazing, and I love his attitude.

If your kids are looking up to Barry Bonds, that say's more about you then it does Barry.

Barry is right, he has his own kids to raise, he don't have time for yours.

Barry seems more like a real working class person with his brutal honesty, and attitude.

I don't blame him for his treatment of the media, would you not be the same? Not everyone likes to talk to a bunch of fat middle class know it alls .
