Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

Anyone think the D'Backs land an Ace?

I honestly think they're a sleeper team on Greinke... I wouldnt be surprised if they end up with Greinke or Zimmerman/Cueto type or trade some pieces in a loaded farm for someone like Gray... Sounds like they have money to spend this Winter.

I feel the DBacks will sign a guy like Fister instead of an ace.

You think so? I could see that if they dont land a Greinke, Cueto, etc.

I wouldnt be surprised if they end up with a Elite closer as well... They went hard after Chapman at the trade deadline.

I think they go after a guy like Fister, so they have more money for other areas like, the bullpen.

I could even see them signing Fister to a one or two year deal, then trade for a guy like Chapman.

I think they're unlikely to break the bank for an ace.

I don't think they have the pieces for Gray, the A's could get better ones elsewhere like Boston, Cubs and Pirates. The Dbacks can't trade their best prospect. And I mean that literally because unless the rules have changed, and they may have, you can't trade your latest draftees. And their best prospect they just drafted this year.

But on an ace, going by what I have read elsewhere, yes they could. They have the $$$ to spend and could use it on an ace.

Yea good point on the trade... I forgot about that.

My guess is Zimmerman/Fister type SP then look to make a deal for Closer.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

I'm not sure why teams with depleted farm systems don't implore that strategy more often ala the Marlins of 2012. Given, the circumstances there were vastly different, but how many times do we see teams over sell for a front line pitcher or a big bat around the deadline to make a playoff push?

Hell, throw $30 million a year at Greinke. Let him prosper for 3 months in monstrous Chase Field and then trade him for a slew of top tier prospects at the deadline when a contender desperately needs pitching and is willing to eat the contract. We see it almost every season.

I mean the Diamondbacks are probably a bad example seeing they didn't really have all that bad of a season but you get the idea.

Because not many teams can take these guys at $30 million a pop and most won't give up guys like Seager, Buxton, Giolito, Moncada, etc. for a 32 year old pitcher with a 6 or 7 year contract. Maybe you could get away with that if there were 2 years left on his deal but not a 6 or 7 deal, which is what Greinke is getting.

Apparently DD almost made a trade today, but the other team cooled off on it.

Maybe it'll reignite tomorrow and go down, get us an ace! I already expect our farm will be gone within the next year and a half so I'm cheering for us to get quality players at this point.
