Indians and Cubs make a lot of sense as trading partners. I could see Carrasco+ going to the Cubbies for something centered around Soler or Schwarber. Carrasco now has 300 IP of ace-like numbers over the past 2 years, is 1.5 years younger than Price, and is insanely cheap through his 2nd team option in 2020. That's the exact type of pickup Theo and Jeddie might make to be able to add a front-end SP and still extend Arrieta without paying out $350MM combined on 2 long-term deals just for SPs.

Getting Price is still the leader in the clubhouse, but it's far from a foregone conclusion.

Soler is probably the guy. Also hearing the Cubs may go after Greinke as well.

        Is water wet?

I'm sure every team is kicking the tires on those two guys.

Anyone outside of Cubs or Cards getting Price,I'd be shocked by. I'd even put Cubs ahead of Cards in that list. Sure, trading for Carrasco would be great for Cubs, but I'm sure their focus is more on Price.

Especially with price for Carrasco seeming to revolve around a starting OF. Why give up Soler?

Go after Price,if it doesn't work out,go after some other FA pitcher. Cubs rotation right now is good enough that they don't need to make a drastic trade for a starter.1 at the most is all they need to add, and shouldn't do so by giving up anyone.

Orioles and Pirates discussing Neil Walker. Talks have been "off" and "on" according to reports.

It's really not though. Lester was average, Hendricks was average, Hammel was awful in the 2nd half.

Soler is expendable because they have a plethora of OF with options to move Schwarber, Bryant, and/or Baez to the OF full-time, and he was a glorified singles hitter until the end of the season, and plays pretty terrible defense.

That rotation was still top 3 in the MLB.

If I had a 3rd ranked pitching staff and a 11th ranked offense(in the NL) in 2015, I'd much rather be looking at offensive players to get over trading for a SP.

Arrieta's all-timer of a season surely played a role in that. The stats also tell a different story from actually watching the team. Hendricks and Hammel were complete crapshoots at the end of the year and it was just as likely they'd be pulled in the 4th than they would go 6. Not to mention there really wasn't a 5th starter for nearly half the season.

The offense is also much younger than the pitching staff. I think there's room for improvement in the offense due to natural progression. I don't think that's the same for the pitching staff.

Re: Cubs the rotation was good in regular season but that's not sustainable. Ideally they need a TOR arm and a 3-4 type to push Hendricks to a 5 but they at least need a TOR arm.

remember they got a very good Hammel in the 1st half. You can't count on that going forward.

But if they go after Price and extend Arrieta that's near half a billion dollars in long-term deals just for 3 SPs (Lester, Price, Arrieta). If you can get Carrasco for 1/10 the cost of Price, you have to try. With the money they save, they could even sign someone like Jason Heyward to replace Soler if they really wanted to. Or someone like Alex Gordon and get a lefty bat and far, far better on defense. That's the difference in $$$ between Carrasco and Price.

                            - LOL at the miscommunication about Devon Travis!

                            - That's pretty cool about the scout that found both Keuchel AND Arietta.

                            - I fully expect Price to be in a Cubs or Cards uniform next year. I could see Price maybe taking a little less than what other teams are offering if it means being reunited with Maddon.
