Well he was going to a contract close to that in FA anyways. The initial reports were around 200-210 million.

You can only pick from who is available in free agency. Money is not an issue for Red Sox ownership. Better to overpay David Price than to trade a Betts for a one or two year rental. Sox had a need and Price fit that need. With no salary cap some teams are afforded the luxury to make a signing like this. Only issue would be if Price decided to opt out after year three and Sox pony up more money to re-sign him. Now that would be stupid.

Wow that is a lot of cake for Price. I'm even happier with the trade to Toronto now.

The player opt out is becoming more and more common.

Pony up more money to resign him you say? Just like the Yanks and CC, and maybe the Dodgers and Greinke.

Curious as to who plays 1B in Seattle now? Give Montero an everyday chance? Move Cano to 1B? Try and acquire a guy like Chris Carter? or other?

D.J. Peterson maybe? They could take a flyer on Justin Mourneau......... I think Tyler Moore of the Nationals would be a good fit.

By poor man's do you mean a better and cheaper player who plays a more valuable position?

Dave Dombrowski has now acquired David Price twice. and Jerry Dipoto has now traded Mark Trumbo twice.

I seem to recall plenty of people saying that and not just Cubs fans either.

Up until the last week or so, who knew the Red Sox were going to offer him that LOLworthy contract? Certainly not me.

In any event, I'm just glad he's not a Yankee, even though there was a 0% chance of that ever happening anyway.

I know that. I'm just saying there was one specific person (his name is eluding me) who was adamant Price was a Cub no if's and's or but's about it.

The Red Sox and Price rumors started a few weeks ago. A lot of people didn't take it seriously.
