When does Joe Torre make mistakes. I mean every manager does, but i guess his aren't as magnified as much as other managers.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Well, he constantly goes to Felix Heredia, his overuse of Paul Quantrill (he'd put him in there in 5 run games), starting Enrique Wilson over Miguel Cairo when he did (finally understood that Cairo's way better), batting Bernie Williams cleanup against Minnesota in Game 1, batting Jorge Posada 5th, etc.

He messes up a lot, but because the Yankees win so much, they're often overlooked.

yeah i see what your saying expecially with overusing quantril, heredia, and wilson. Cairo isn't a bad player, and if i were the yanks i would focus on pitching before replacing him.

What bad stuff did you hear about Mathews? He was a pretty good hitting coach here in Toronto. The Jays really put up some great power numbers tho they also had a lot of Ks. Still he did well enough that people didn't see him as a problem.

BINGO! See Corey Patterson. Young hitter that was supposed to be a lead off hitter. Now he thinks he's Barry Bonds. The last thing the Cubs need is to have their entire lineup trying to hit home runs.

The whole team turned into power hitters this year, or at least tried to. But strangely nobody could lay down a damn bunt. Power is over rated.

Last team to lead the league in homers and win the world series....1984 Detroit Tigers. I'm just glad management realized they had to make a change to a new philosophy.

Re: Do you think Dusty Baker will be fired?

My feelings as a die-hard Cubs fan.

Dusty definitely will not get fired. As for some of the current players, that is another situation altogether.

Kyle Farnswoth needs to be traded for some prospects or a proven veteran reliever. It's a shame because his stuff is electric but he can't control it. With his arsenal he is the prototypical setup man.

Alou should not be re-signed. I know some Cub fans think he should coming off a career best HR season but he was terribly inconsistent this year. Unfortunately, he was the only Cub hitting down the collapse. Not re-signing him frees up quite a bit of money.

Sosa. I honestly believe it is time for the Dominican Daddy to move on the greener pastures. He is a liablility in the outfield and he strikes out entirely too much in clutch situations. At the very least he needs to make some type of contact when there are RISP. There were soooo many times he would strike out with a man on 2nd or 3rd and 1 outs. The Sosa-Cub marraige is over and I would love to see Carlos Beltran in Cubbie blue.

Kerry Wood. If this guy could ever stay healthy he would be a dominant force in baseball. He tends to walk too many guys and get the pitch count up but his fragile arm is beginning to worry me. If there was a tempting enough deal out there I would consider making Woody trade bait oo. Only if the deal was right though.

Nomar. I think he should be re-signed but not a ridiculous price.

Oh yeah, put Wendell Kim on the first base coach side. Waving Wendell cost us quite a few runs this year.

As for the rest of the team, we need guys to work on their fundamentals. Most notably, moving guys over via a bunt or sacrifice hit. This inability does fall on the manager but I see Dusty imploring the importance of this next year.

All in all the rest of this lineup can produce. Patterson, Ramirez, Lee, a healthy Hollandsworth, Todd Walker, Grudz and Barrett are a sound foundation. I think we put it together next year and make some noise.

Move Kerry Wood to closer. Solves two problems. But they'd never do it. They're still trying to sell him as an ace, which is not, and will never be.

Some more mistakes Torre made tonight.

He should've never lifted Mussina for Sturtze against Varitek. Mussina owns Varitek, and I trust him a hell of a lot more than Sturtze.

Pitching to Ortiz instead of walking him and going after Millar. You either do that, or you bring in Rivera to face Ortiz.

                              Clueless Joe at his best.
