Also if sheffield decides to retire they will probably try to get a right fielder like j.d. drew, but i'm not sure exactly what his plans are.

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
as a red sox fan....
.....the 2003 red sox GAVE the yanks the pennant (thanks grady)
the 2004 red sox have been clearly beaten by the yanks..no excuses
while everyone (myself included) thought this red sox team was much better than the yanks.....the yanks made MAJOR improvements on offense
last year juan riveria/karin garcia (yes karin) were replaced with SHEFF
boone replaced with AROD
MATSUI, the real matsui in MLB this year(remember he hit 50- HR in his final japanese year)
those are 3 very tough hitters this year
and they always have karma their way
schilling ankle/lieber pitching like cone
oh wellBummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.Comment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
3 million isn't much when the Yankees are already outspending the competition by upwards of 120 million. The Yankees drive up the price of talent making it even harder for poorer teams to sign decent guys to reasonable deals.
I may be a fan of the second highest payroll in the league (which is going to come down next season), but I've always wanted a cap in baseball because I think its better for the game. The A's were the modern example of how to run a team with a low budget but look at who they get bounced out of the playoffs by, the Red Sox and Yankees. And they're going to have problems maintaining their level of excellence when Hudson and Mulder's contracts are up. Minnesota's the next best team with a low payroll and they've been the Yankees' whipping boys the last few years. The Yankees beat the Twins in game 4 partially because of a 3-run homer by Ruben Sierra, who was hitting 7th or 8th in their lineup. If Sierra is a Twin he's hitting fourth or fifth. No other team has the luxury of having a power guy like that hitting in the bottom of the order, especially not the Twins.Comment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
we shall see how hernandez does, but he has had plenty of time to rest and his dead arm should be over by now. Yanks have a good shot if hernandez and lowe both pitched as they did during the season.
edit: another thing i have noticed is that jeter is hitting .186. If the yanks weren't leading 3 games to 0 this would be a major topic.Last edited by nkhera1; 10-17-2004, 07:09 PM.Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
I predicted the Yankees to lose all 3 games, and have happily been wrong each time, so I'll keep with the theme. El Duque gets bombed, Lowe dominates, Red Sox 9 Yankees 1Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
well lowe only needs 10 pitches to get out of the first inning.
edit: also olerud is not playing today, i heard he hurt his foot yesterday.
double edit: Well hernandez needed 22 pitches to get out of the inning, but he escaped unharmed. Hopefully he will settle down a bit more after walking ortiz and ramirez. What a surprise! Matsui hits another double. That guy is a monster. Red Sox should have signed him when they had the chance.Last edited by nkhera1; 10-17-2004, 07:34 PM.Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment
