Re: Caminiti Dies of Heart Attack

I heard about this today at school, and was shocked.

It's terrible when someone dies as early as Caminiti did, and even worse knowing he had a drug problem.

RIP Ken, you'll be missed by the baseball world.

I believe there was an interview on him a few years back saying that he knows his lifestyle will lead him to dying young... I also read that in my local newspaper.

If the Padres retired number 6 for Steve Garvey and the 1984 season, they should equally retire this guys number regardless of his steroids use for leading the team in 1996 and 1998 to the playoffs. I don't want to Sean Burroughs wearing number 21 or anyone else because most likely they won't come close to what Caminiti did for the team defensively and offensively. I wonder if this will make the schedule makers have an early season series with the Astros and Padres so they can do something for Caminiti. Next season I'd like the Padres to put Caminiti's number on the spot near third base.

Man, and he wanted to be a manager for one the Padres minor league teams next year (I think it was one of those things in which the Padres had for him trying to help him turn his life around).

One of the first baseball cards i got growing up in houston area was Cammy's. He was a intense guy that got caught in a bad lifestyle. Dont play the death on just steroids heorin and cocaine probably did most the damage. He will be missed, show some respect even if you dont agree with his lifestyle some people slip into that lifestyle and cant get out.

It's all the drugs that did it, I heard on the news he had tested positive for cocaine like 2 days before his death. Really sad how drugs mess up his whole life and he still goes back to them. Hopefully people tempted by cocaine and heroin will see this and shy away.

I think he mentioned that in the Sports Illustrated article where he stated 50% of baseball players were on 'roids. In the same article he said he that when he first started using, he didn't really know how and didn't cycle the 'roids. So he was injecting way too much into his body. I remember his saying that it got so bad that 6 months after the season his balls dropped back into their rightful place. As sick as that sounds, it goes to show he was doing way too many roids.

It's truly a shame that such a young guy was taken. RIP Ken...
