The Best thing for Larkin is to retire, he is no longer at the top of his game, he is of no use to other teams as a utility player since he can only play one position, i would rather remember Larkin as a Red than see him try and hang on with another team.

I am ashamed to see the way the Reds Front Office handled Larkin. The guy plays his butt off for your team for 20 years, and you just give him a phone call and tell him he is released. Barry has been my favorite player for as long as I can remember and seeing him go like this is truly sad.
Although I do think it was time for him to retire, I think the Reds should have offered him a Front Office job as planned, and seen if he would have retired for that. Im sure everyone in this city wants him to stay here and retire here, not play one year in some other town and retire there.Last edited by Jwally; 10-13-2004, 08:26 PM.Clemson Tigers

Re: Barry Larkins Future?
Your right about how poorly the Reds front office handled the situation but it's almost like what the Mariners did to Edgar Martinez: cut his playing time in order to insure that his option did not kick in for next season and once he announced his retirement they started to let him play again. it's like a slap in the face to a player who has been loyal to one organization for their whole career.
When Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio retire, they will probably be the last players we ever see play their entire careers for one team (thats right Yankee fans, don't expect to see Jeter in pinstripes forever!).Comment
