Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Ubaldo + prospect for Melvin (cheaper contract for Padres, plus prospect).
Now, also, they're seeking two prospects for Cashner in which the Blue Jays and Orioles are duking it out for both players now.Come hang with me on YouTube! I stream/make videos on a variety of games from sports, to action, to adventure!

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
That literally makes ZERO sense for the Padres. Why would they want a pitcher who has been good for a grand total of half a season in his career? Get a mid level prospect or 2, but not him. Especially when you're in rebuilding mode.Green Bay PackersSeattle MarinersNew York Rangers

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Because they don't want to pay any extra money just for Upton to NOT play for them. Use it for a guy that may turn his career around ala Drew Pomeranz.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
I don't think Ubaldo fits that description. I think he's done. His control is as bad as it has ever been and he no longer has the elite velocity to compensate.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Like I said he may turn it around, would I bet anything of monetary value on it? Hell no. But there's a chance. I just used Pomeranz because he was the first guy that came to my mind of someone who got better because they were playing in Petco. I could go do some research about other guys but I'm gonna be lazy and not do it.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Just going to say his 2008-2010 seasons were pretty solid. As well as his 2013 season. So his "half a season" is actually four seasons. He isn't a good pitcher anymore, but he has shown flashes of being solid in the past.
Also the whole Pomeranz and Jimenez thing is really skewed. Pom is 27 and cheap, Ubaldo is neither.Come hang with me on YouTube! I stream/make videos on a variety of games from sports, to action, to adventure!

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
"Turning it around" is an expression commonly used for someone who was once good and isn't anymore. It's used to express hope that said player will return to the form they once showed when they were good.Last edited by kehlis; 07-23-2016, 10:58 AM.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
The Blue Jays are also in on the Melvin Upton Jr. talks as well. No reported names on the Jays side but it's nice to see them along with the O's being close to a deal there.
The Jays have also been talking with the Padres about Cashner but there's a hold up as there's a perceived difference in value between the two teams. I'm thinking the Jays are trying to minimize the kind of prospects they'd have to give up for Cashner.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
