    2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Didn't think we'd need a thread this early, but with the White Sox making a move for James Shields here we are..

Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis Jr to the Padres
James Shields and 31MM to the White Sox

    Discuss.

Take this with a huge grain of salt since it's coming from a Boston writer (Nick Cafardo) but he feels if the Jays aren't considered contenders by Shapiro and Atkins then Bautista and Encarnacion could be traded. More interest would be on Bautista as the Giants, Cards, and Cubs could be interested in his services.

Not sure why to take it with a huge grain of salt, seeing as it makes complete sense to trade at least 1 of them if they are out of it. They don't have a great system after gutting it last year for an ALCS participation award. Not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing, just saying that's what the result was. And who else would they move to improve their system? Stroman? No shot in hell he's the frontline guy in that rotation and still under control for like 5 years. Tulo? Can't see them moving on from him so early. Donaldson? Ain't gunna happen. If they are out of it come the deadline they should definitely move at least one of Joey Bats and EE.

Only a grain of salt since it's coming from a Boston writer.

It makes perfect sense if the team is clearly out of it but I don't see that being the case.

Good riddance. There's more value in paying him to go away than in having him take the field and rack up negative WAR.

That and we are slowly getting rid of Ned Colletti's mistakes. Arisbel Arruebarrena, Alex Guerrero, Carl Crawford and if he continues to be horrible Puig isn't far behind.

Talk of the Giants potentially being in on Andrew Miller. That would be fantastic. Hope it happens.

Giants don't have the prospects to pull off the deal I don't think, we're close to rebuild so we would need pieces for the future, Miller is really well cost controlled for an elite closer for the next few years. It's gonna take quite the haul to get him.

Not sure what the Cards would do with Jose Bautista, unless we moved Holliday to 1B, but Adams is hitting .325 right now.

Not sure if he became available that I would want the Cards giving up prospects for him. As it stands right now, we need to find arms as our pitching has struggled all season.

The Cubs wouldn't trade Schwarber for Andrew Miller. Shocker there.

LOL...you guys were all up on Guerrero's jock last year when he was doing his Hank Aaron impression. Now he's a mistake...oh, how fickle we are as fans.

I cant get mad at Carl Crawford, as a Dodgers beat writer wrote, he was basically the tax to get Adrian Gonzalez.

I would be down with trading Puig now before he gets any worse.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I was never on his train. Yeah, he had his moments at the plate, but defensively he was bad and he was never goingg to play everyday in LA. I did say last year he looked like hewas getting it together finally, then the second half came along and he wasn't any good. He simply didn't pan out as some hoped.
