One has to wonder if the authorities decided to withhold that piece of information until a later date. It'd have completely changed the context of how we mourned his loss in the days that followed.

That's not surprising at all though?

He was in the water so you aren't going to smell anything and he isn't breathing so you can't do a breathalyzer.

The only way to know is to wait for the results and there is no way they're going to come out and officially say something on an assumption.

And now they are saying cocaine in his system as well.

Still sad and feel for his family...but you reap what you sow.

I don't feel any different about Fernandez after all this. I know many now will trash his name, but people make mistakes. It is what it is.

Bad equation: Young kid, not a lot of guidance, beaucoup amounts of money, suspect "friends", drugs & alcohol, high speed, a boat and jagged rocks.

Sad indeed, especially after what was said he had to go through to get to where he did.

Not sad at all imo. Drive a boat at high speed at night while drunk and high on cocaine. ******* stupid. Had a wife/girlfriend and a baby on the way. Pretty damn irresponsible.

Hard to argue with this point, except it can still be sad at the same time it was foolish, immature, illegal, and reckless.

You don't always do the smartest things when your young. I can tell you from experience, sometimes I feel lucky to still be here.

The kid was lit, he had just gotten into an argument with his girl, he made a bad decision.

We don't have conclusive evidence he was driving either, I know it was his boat, but that doesn't mean he was driving.

It's terrible, anyway you slice it.

                    Despicable. Disgusting.

Can't believe I shed tears for this guy.

                    What a waste.

I can't say I'm surprised of the drug and alcohol results.

Iirc, one of the other 2 had cocaine in his system and neither of the two had a blood alcohol that was over the limit.

He was a young kid coming from nothing that became a huge success pretty rapidly with money and fame.

He had alcohol and cocaine in his system. He was young, but also dumb and irresponsible.

                          Again, why are people surprised?

Is it commonplace or assumed that every athlete that comes from small beginnings would be into drug and alcohol use?

I've done stupid things, you have done stupid things. We all have.

I, personally would never drive a boat at night over the speed limit while drunk and on coke. But some people do, some die, some don't.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the whole thing about well we all do stupid things is true, it doesn't make me feel that this guy was any less than an a complete idiot. Yes, its sad, yes I shed a tear. But sometimes when you do stupid things you pay the ultimate price. And he did. So to be brutally honest I don't feel sorry for him anymore.

Not assumed but not surprising at all for any pro athlete no matter where theyre from.
