I would enterpret that as Pedro wanting out of Boston, for the highest salary he can get, and using Derek as a scapegoat. Pedro is looking out for Derek's best interest? Puh-leez.

Pedro has been saying all year that he wants to finish his career in boston. I think he is just skeptical about the Red Sox front office paying him what he wants. The sticking point right now is the length of the contract. Pedro wants 3 years while the Red Sox only want two. If they agree on something I think it will be in the area of 3 for 36.

I love the Yankees. I hate Pedro Martinez. If he comes to the Yankees, I'll hate him but I'll be happy as long as he wins.

After this year's playoffs I have to disagree with you on the whole sentimental part of your post. I think, deep down (believe it or not) all pro baseball players LOVE to play the game. And Francona consistently said how he and his team was just happy to be playing baseball. I think this was the most sentimental playoff and sentimental bunch of games I've seen in a long, long time.

In all of this speculation I cant believe I dont see LA mentioned. LA is one team that historically could match the Yankees in $$ and they need starting pitching worse than the Yankees do. Also, what about Anaheim. They have a solid owner who is also Latino. I can easily see Pedro with the Angels next year or the Dodgers. I cant see the Yankees.

I think that Pedro will stick with the Red Sox or go to Anaheim. I think that Pedro realizes he has it good in beantown and it would make no sense for him to leave just because of money.
