If the players want him to get a ring then he should get a ring, end of story. Pedro Astacio will get a ring and what did he do for the team? Not a whole lot, certainly less than what Nomar did. I personally would not give him a ring but I'm not a player on this team. And according to Gammons' latest article, Red Sox will be presenting Garciapara with a ring.

The bottom line is that Nomar was not part of the team when the Red Sox won the World Series, sorry, its as simple as that. I don't care if he helped them get there and bla bla bla, the bottom line is that he was not a Red Sox and he should not get a ring for a team he does not play for. I would be EXTREMELY angry if someone's name was inscribed on the Stanley Cup after they've been traded, regardless of what they meant to the team in the past or earlier that year for that matter.
If you'd go back and read my earlier post you'd see that OWNERSHIP decides who gets championship rings.
Again, everyone from the hitting instructor to minor leaguers called up after September 1st have been known to get a ring.
As far as "of this happening more often".....it has been going on for years and years and years. We just don't hear about it because of the Red Sox and Nomar's unique situation.
Get a grip people. Where have you been the past couple decades?
How much would you like to bet A.J. Burnett got a WS ring at the Marlins opening home game for doing nothing but recovering from Tommy John surgery all of last year?
Where is the uproar with that?Comment

Re: Nomar is getting a ring...Agree/Disagree
It's ridiculous if he gets a ring. I'll just echo the thoughts of others... HE DID NOTHING FOR THE WORLD SERIES TEAM!!!! He got traded for a reason, and thats because he didnt help the BoSox. When the team went on that amazing winning streak, cutting down on the Yankees lead game by game... they did it without him! When they clinched the AL Wildcard... without Nomaa! Beating the Yankees in the ALCS... he was sittin at home in Chicago... When THEY WON THE WORLD SERIES.... you get the point..
No, he shouldnt get a ring.Comment

Gary DiScarcina was given a ring when the Angels won in 2002.
This isn't an uncommon thing.
Again, the team has the vote, not us. They have more right to think Nomar was a part of their championship than we do."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
