I don't know what was happening on tonight's broadcast because I didn't get to watch more than a couple innings but I just don't understand the urge for so many people to diminish other people's concerns and criticisms of things with "it's not that big a deal."
Because it's really not. There was still a baseball game on. That hasn't changed for years. The only thing that has changed is the addition of a female broadcaster. And it's become the cool Internet thing to CONSTANTLY complain about that.

Sure, you can hate it. You can also choose to mute it. Or not watch it. Or use MLB At Bat to listen to one of the radio broadcasts.

But in the grand scheme of things, in the grand scheme of baseball even, it really truly doesn't matter. There's still two teams trying to have more runs after 27 outs.

It has absolutely nothing to do with a female broadcaster. Boony and Shulman are just not a good pair or announcers in general. Then you add in Mendoza, it's really bad.

It's not just the announcing, it's that stupid, gimmicky ****ing K zone that is always there. It's just ESPN doing what they do. Being terrible at everything they do.

So...don't watch? I guess? You can't complain about something you don't take part in.

I thought her name was Mendoza?

I am still bitter about the Matt Adams trade. I understand you can't find at bats for him and the idea of moving him, but to basically let him go for nothing? WTH!?

Surely we could've gotten a better return on him than what we got.

Wow, they literally dumped him for nothing. As you said, it was beneficial for Adams as he couldn't find ABs in STL but still..... I wonder if behind the scenes he asked for them to trade him if they encounter such a possibility. Sort of like how Wong complained at the start of this season but far less publicly.

I'm sure he wasn't please being limited to basically pinch hit duties. But he had more value than what we received in return. That's just ridiculous.

There are things you could do to either tell/show ESPN you don't like their commentary or things you could do to save yourself from how terrible it is, but people choose instead to complain. When there are so many simple solutions to the problem, and people don't want to take them, what conclusion can you come to other than "this isn't a big deal"?

Because I want to hear the sights and sounds of the game and I want to hear commentary and analysis? I'm just gonna watch the game on mute? What a nonsensical idea lol. I already don't watch Sunday Night Baseball nearly as much anymore. It's not "complain just complain but keep watching" I am just sick of being told by higher and mightier beings that my opinions aren't as important and things "really aren't a big deal at all" as if they're the sole arbiters.

Just because I don't like a broadcast doesn't mean I don't want a broadcast, lol. That's the entire point of the criticism!

And no, it has nothing to do with them adding a woman to the booth. To say that is ridiculous, easy and quite frankly cliche at this point. ESPN has been subpar for over a decade now. And ****ty broadcasts are not exclusive to ESPN either. You know what Fox did with criticisms of their broadcast? They improved the **** out of their broadcast.

                      Re: 5/15 - 5/28 Game Discussion Thread

I tried to explain this in another thread. I don't look for reasons to complain about ESPN. I don't seek out espn for anything.

The majority of Yankees games for instance are broadcast on their own networks. But occasionally ESPN is literally the only network that will broadcast that game. So I can't get away from it completely or I absolutely would.

The point is the broadcast shouldn't be so annoying that I have to go and listen to a radio broadcast that's not even in sync with ESPN. If you ever noticed many stations are a little behind the action at times, so that wouldn't even work.

Believe me if I could just live on the MLB network at all times I would and while I'm not in love with Yankees announcers- "Michael Kay or Sterling" at least I can tolerate them.

Donaldson and Tulo starting rehab assignments in Dunedin (A) today. If people didn't buy tickets yet, they should now.

Nothing makes less sense to me than listening to something you don't like, so if listening to something else doesn't make sense to you, I don't know what to do there. All of that sick of people telling you about your opinions stuff is too much, especially if you're trying to say this is actually a big deal.

Fox didn't improve their commentary because you complained, they did it because Tim McCarver retired. Hopefully when Boone and Mendoza retire they'll be replaced with some better talent.

All the power to people who can actually watch a sport and, I don't know, listen to a podcast or something instead.

Fox took the opportunity presented to them with McCarver retiring and actually made improvements. Also Joe Buck has gone on record many times to state that criticisms of his early work drove him to tweak his presentation. I never thought McCarver and Buck were as bad as people said but the fact is that Buck improved and they didn't replace McCarver with an exact replica. And let's not forget how awesome the Burkhardt/Hurt/Rose/A-Rod pre-post game panels are now, compared to whoever the hell was on those things a while back.

But I'm supposed to just ignore all the things that go into making a sporting event fun and special to watch and and listen to Spotify or something instead? That's absurd and not immersive at all. To me, anyway. No, the solution is to get better.

Most would agree that in the long run the solution is to get better. But if, as you said, they've been bad for 10 years, we know what we're going to get. It's easy to avoid, especially when it's 1 game per week. I don't know if you are seriously equating complaints made here to the criticism that would get to Joe Buck, but either way, it doesn't matter. ESPN will ESPN.

Kansas City coming into the Bronx tonight. Hopefully Pineda's got it.
