And Miggy is now DFA'd. Good on the Cubs.

Step 1: Establish finger pointing as something selfish players do.

Step 2: Point the finger by saying if one guy has no problems, it must be your fault.

That part is kinda true though. Contreras has no problems throwing people out no matter who pitches.

That's beside the point really, there may be some truth to the idea that the pitchers make it harder for Montero to throw guys out. It just amused me, like Obi Wan and "Only the sith deal in absolutes".

Whatever the case may be, you don't go out and blast your teammates publicly like that. You deal with it in the clubhouse.

And Montero and Contreras have both had 31 stolen bases attempted against them. Contreras has thrown out 16 while Montero has thrown out 1.

It's a safe bet to say that Montero has had a problem keeping the running game in check this year

I agree, and Rizzo said so himself. He said, to the media, that bringing things like this to the media is unprofessional.

I know you're trying hard to paint Rizzo as a bad guy here, but bottom line is that if Montero is professional, he handles this in the clubhouse. But he rather go to media to blame his issues on other people.

Maybe Rizzo shouldn't have said anything, but if Montero keeps it in the clubhouse none of this happens.

And Montero can blame who he wants, but he's not throwing out runners. Plain and simple

I'm not painting anyone as a bad guy, we're talking about baseball players speaking to the media lol. Like I said, it's just amusing. I'd imagine the only thing they could really do is move past it.

He straight up did what he said shouldn't be done. He's not a bad guy for it, but there's no reason to make excuses like it didn't happen. If pointing fingers is wrong, then don't do it lol. It's pretty much that simple.

Hopefully with being DFA'ed Montero will have learned a lesson. You don't go blasting your teammates the way he did to Arrieta. It'll be interesting to see where he winds up as he's a capable backup but the way he left Chicago doesn't help him very much.

Good riddance to Montero. Thanks for his contribution and a clutch grand slam in the playoffs, but otherwise he hasn't been worth the investment (2.3 fWAR combined over the past 3 years). He's actually hitting pretty well this year (112 wRC+), so that shows you the emphasis this front office places on defense and keeping your laundry in house. A bit surprised for Montero to go out playing the blame game--he always seemed like a good clubhouse guy/veteran, but a catcher can't complain about his pitchers publicly and that's not just one of those unwritten baseball rules; airing grievances about co-workers very visibly in public is never good form in any occupation.

Furthermore, Contreras is handling mostly the same pitchers and, as a couple of others have already noted, Willy is getting drastically different results. Any modicum of applying the scientific method will tell you what the variable is here...Miggy really can't hide from the numbers unfortunately. He's one of the least athletic players in the game and might be more useful on an AL club where he can DH a bit when rosters expand in September.

But he didn't "bring it up." It was already "brought up" by the time he commented. There's something to be said for who "started it" as juvenile as that sounds. Responding to an issue as Rizzo did could be construed as showing solidarity for his teammate that he felt was unfairly attacked. In that case, the same rules of etiquette don't necessarily apply. If your contention is that nobody should've said anything in response to Montero, I can't 100% disagree with you, but nobody would've had to if Montero hadn't opened the issue up to the public/media. Further, the insinuation that Rizzo is even slightly a bad dude is totally laughable. Anyone who knows anything about Rizzo knows he's an asset to the chemistry of the team.

Sure, the rules could be changed if we acknowledge that Rizzo wouldn't have had to point the finger if Montero hadn't at first. In the interest of being pedantic, they should be changed if Montero was asked a question about his poor throwing because that would mean he didn't bring it up, the new sportswriter did. Also because if Arrieta wasn't so slow to the plate, Montero wouldn't have had to justify his poor throwing night. And so on and so on lol.
