Sucks this game really doesn't mean awhole lot for the Jays(their GB might not be big in the WC, but amount of teams infront of them will kill those chances of playoffs). Would've been nice to play a meaningful game at Wrigley for the first time.
Like you, i'm highly skeptical but no one thought the Angels would be where they are right now. I'm in the Jeff Blair camp of people regarding all this "we got a chance!" talk in the media here. Let's see the Jays get over .500, past the Rays and O's before I get any hopes up. Still, it's not COMPLETELY meaningless baseball.

Apparently, Don Cherry is going to do the 7th inning stretch rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for one of those games this weekend.

There's only been 1 player ever to have 30 or more HR's and less than 70 hits in the same season. That would be Joey Gallo currently. 33 HR's and only 68 hits currently.

Baseball is such an amazing game...6 weeks ago NO one could get Aaron Judge out. Now he looks so lost and has been awful...

BTW - did anyone see Angel Hernandez eject Ian Kinsler last night? That was even awful by Hernandez' standards...good heavens.

Listening to the Braves' announcers gush over the Rockies batting stats (particularly Arenado and Blackmon) without discussing context is a little baffling. I love Nolan Arenado, but he is not a great hitter...he's a very good hitter, but not a super star level hitter. His home/road splits every year demonstrate this...same for Blackmon.

They were discussing how large of a contract Arenado would get as a free agent next year...he would be a fool to leave Coors.

Kinsler came out today and said "He needs to find another job."

So, when does Girardi removes Chapman from the closer role? Never I suppose. He doesn't inspire confidence in the 9th, his fastball is just too flat. Give Robertson a chance.

Cubs continue to be a paragon of inconsistency. One night after pounding a brutal Reds' staff for 15 runs, here they are working on being shutout in the 9th.

That's what you call being too patient as Avila takes a slider right down the pipe to end the game.

I think it just fooled him.

This Cubs team is incredibly annoying.

50 games over .500 in mid-August. Quite something.
