I get the angst over the Hosmer contract, BUT...at least the Padres are doing something. For so many years San Diego fans have had to put up with crap...now the Padres actually make a move and people dump on it. I hope it works out...I hope the Padre minor league system produces a bunch of stars...and I hope they win the NL West in the next 3 years.

On the other hand with the Padres having a boatload of prospects coming in Hosmer is an excellent veteran voice for them to listen to and follow.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

2B - Urias
3B - ?
SS - Tatis
LF - Myers
CF - Margot
RF - Renfroe/Cordero?
Nice core
Gore
Quantrill
Espinoza
Luchessi
Lauer
Paddack
Baez
Morejon
Allen
Nix
All coming up for pitching help.
I was a little upset at first with the 8/144 but after seeing the terms it does set up pretty nicely.
5/100 (Age: 28-32)
If he's producing he'll get way more on the market than 13 a year so we basically signed him for 5/100.
If he does come back, 3/39 is a good deal“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
If the Rays DFA'd Corey Dickerson and there's no issues we don't know about yet (i.e. potential suspension), then I would have to assume Adeiny Hecchavaria will meet the same fate. Both making about $6 million through arbitration which means non guaranteed contract.
Who knows though, I'm sure someone will work out a trade for Dickerson and the Rays won't be on the hook for the 30 day termination pay, can't say that I'd have much faith in finding a trade partner for Hecchavaria though. I know his defense is great, but that only gets you so far and a lot of teams are set at SS.Comment

Red Sox officially sign Eduardo Nunez.
I dig it. He came in last year and immediately provided a boost.Boston Red Sox

This year yes, but he's not in the long term plans. My post was for 2019

Not sure if I'd rather have 1 year of CJ Cron than 3 years of CJ Cron though tbh. Bang average 1st baseman aren't exactly gold dustComment

Some teams are just now signing up for Tanking 101, the Rays are taking graduate level courses.
Meanwhile, Boras got Hosmer 8 years. If JD gets 7, I will never doubt this man again.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
I get that, but they currently have no first baseman other than Brad Miller so he was sort of a need for them. Plus he is cost effective. You never know a change of scenery may be what Cron needs.Last edited by ShowTyme15; 02-18-2018, 01:32 PM.Comment

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
He's just always struck me as such a nothing player for a first basemen. You'd think you could pick up someone for next to nothing on the FA market if they got that desperate for a barely replacement level first baseman. But I guess with Bauers and maybe McKay not that far away they are just after anyone cheapComment

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
8 years at 18 million per. Not exactly what he wanted. I view this as 5 years at 21 million a year. The back-end tips in the favor of SD. They get him for age 28 -32 age seasons (prime years). If he opts out after that I'm sure they won't be upset. If he stays they are only on the hook for 3 years in his mid-30's at 13 per. Not bad. I'd say SD won this deal not Boras.Yankees & Nationals - The American Way!Comment
