The STL Cardinals and Blue Jays hook up for a minor trade as SS Aledmys Diaz goes to Toronto in exchange for minor league OF prospect JB Woodman. I really like this move as the Jays non tendered SS Ryan Goins and thus Diaz will be the reserve guy. He's young enough where he can have a bounce back year and has more pop than any of the backup middle infielders the Jays have.

I don't really get it from the Cards' perspective. JB Woodman isn't any great prospect.Comment

I know why Cashman did it, but I really disagree with the firing of Girardi to hire Boone. What has Aaron Boone ever done that demonstrates he can manage a team? I believe Cashman wants a guy that he can "control" from the front office...I don't think this ends well."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Yeah I'm not a fan of this at all. But Cashman has been on a roll.
Aledmys Diaz eh? That's pretty surprising.Comment

LOL, really though, don't expect jays to get him at all. I'm actually surprised he isn't just guaranteed to be headed to the NL. Pitchers get to bat, and days he's not pitching, he could be pinch hitter for the pitchers late in games. The STL Cardinals and Blue Jays hook up for a minor trade as SS Aledmys Diaz goes to Toronto in exchange for minor league OF prospect JB Woodman. Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
I wouldn't call it minor. Diaz was an all star in 2016. He was crap last year, so it'll be interesting to see if he is for real or not. He's 27, but still has 5 years of team control remaining. I imagine he'll get a real amount of play time with Tulo and Travis not being entirely reliable.

As for Boone, I really this is going to end in disaster. It's one thing to step out of the broadcast booth and manage some podunk team but Boone's been given the keys to the Cadillac here. This is a team with sky high expectations and you're putting in a novice? This is going to take the "manager as middle management guy" philosophy to the extreme test. At least Cora had coaching experience before he got hired by Boston.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Aaron Boone will win a World Series in the next 3 years as manager of the Yankees. Managers barely ever mattered, and they matter even less now.

Couldn't disagree more. Still gotta know when to take a guy out, how to motivate someone, how to make sure guys know their roles. I don't see him being able to do those things that turn a good roster into a winning team.Comment

Dusty Baker wishes you were right. Then he probably would've won a World Series with the Giants...or the Cubs....or the Reds....or the Nats....Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
