Knowing when to take a guy out is something that can be taught, it's not some gut instinct thing. With the emphasis on sabermetrics, and knowing that they're basically doing a Dave Roberts manage by committee, one of the biggest data departments in the league, he'll have all the help and information he needs to make those moves.

I don't really know what to say to you not believing him capable of doing the things that make a winning team given that you weren't in the interview, have no idea what was discussed, don't even know where he's coming from as a manager. Dude hasn't even had his opening press conference. Regardless, mark your calendar. 3 years.

This just makes no sense to me. Other than taking the starter out early in the 02 World Series, Dusty has never had a team that I would've expected to run through the league, that I look at him as the piece that blew it. If only he hadn't booted that double play ball in 03, oh wait, wasn't him. If only those Reds teams weren't trash, oh wait, he just manages. If only every DC team didn't do the same run the regular season and choke in the playoffs routine, guess that's son him. Given that none of those teams won anything with the manager that was there before or immediately after Dusty, I don't blame him for that entirely.

I think the number is 3 wins or losses, is the difference between a good manager and a bad one that's been worked out.

The only way you'd expect Dusty Baker to have won a championship would be if you believe the manager is the difference maker. Because I don't believe that, and have seen AJ Hinch and Ned Yost win rings, we'll just have to wait and see lol.

In an alternate universe where the Mets have 27 rings, we're talking about how poor of a strategist and bullpen manager Joe Torre was for moving a clearly superior shortstop to 3rd base and running relievers like Scott Proctor into an early grave. Alas, the wins erase all of that.

He's young enough where he can have a bounce back year and has more pop than any of the backup middle infielders the Jays have.

In front office news Andrew Tinnish turned down the Braves front office position to remain with the Jays.
I simply don't understand this trade by the Cardinals. WTF are they doing??!!!

You trade Aledmys Diaz for an outfield prospect when you are looking to make deals this winter to unclog your farm system.....OF OUTFIELD PROSPECTS!!!

      Come on guys!!!

I don't mind trading Diaz but you've got to get a better return than this. This ranks up there with the Matt Adams trade in terms of stupidity due to the lack of return received.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I think, if I read correctly, that Kevin Maitan could have been signed by anyone as of the beginning of this past week. I haven't heard anything, however, about teams pursuing him. I thought he'd be snatched right up...am I missing something?

That's a good point. That's exactly what they're trying to avoid by moving in the "front office puppet" direction. He mattered too much and they had to get rid of him for it.

I should've said for us. Our organization is a machine. Just moving pieces at this point. I thought Girardi was a great manager, but we didn't even need a great manager to win the ring he got. And we haven't had a team that could win since. Theyre basically doing what they can to minimize any impact the position can have. They've basically been doing it since George said "how much money am I paying Joe Torre? For what? With all this talent, anyone could manage us to a ring."

He's been on TV for the last 3+ years talking about his philosophies and communicating his ideas. If you thought he was a good analyst, then you'll like what he has to offer. I thought he was pretty crappy, so I don't have high expectations for his managing ability.

After listening to him, Jessica Mendoza, and Dan Schulman do their thing as commentators, I think Mendoza has the best future of the 3 as a manager. She won't ever get hired in that capacity, but...

Yeah I agree. It was pretty obvious that she knew more about the game, especially hitting, than Boone.

Kidding, but none of the Boones (Bret, Aaron, or Bob) were particularly solid hitters without the juice, though their fundamentals were okay in that they swung a flat bat (today's hitters would argue against that).

Well to be fair, Shulman is there just to call the action. I will agree that Mendoza has a far better understanding of the game especially the hitting side of it than Boone.

No, but I never thought of him to have been a good hitter. All I have though are stories and stats, no personal accounts. I wasn't alive when he played.

I mostly put Bret in that category, because he was probably the best offensive player of the three, though still never hit for a high average.
