Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
That's like having a casting call for a role in a film when you already have your mind set on somebody specific. You still want to see what's out there and what you can get out of that role. You might end up even changing your mind, or consider those for future endeavors.
This is a non-news story, and so very stupid. I can't believe anybody is whining about this. No one asked Cashman to scale the side of a skyscraper for this guy.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Ohtani...
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes that there are those in the game who wonder if Ohtani’s decision has already been made. The expedited manner in which Ohtani eliminated 23 teams and then met with seven finalists has been a point of frustration for some clubs, Rosenthal writes, noting that execs from some East coast teams have privately wondered why they were asked to put so much time into their presentations for Ohtani when he ultimately eliminated the East coast in one swoop.Comment

It seems to me Ohtani and his people were using this as an exercise to stroke his ego since it's readily apparent that he knows exactly where he wants to go. I can't say whether that's good or bad but I can see how it can leave some GMs and owners with a bad taste in their mouths.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I get the whining aspect that some have pointed out though the Toronto Blue Jays were a bit different. It was more massive disappointment and possible frustration on their end. Apparently they made a hard pitch and even did a whole video presentation about the city and how he could be a great member of the sports and social scene here. According to Atkins Ohtani's people gave glowing and very positive reviews saying that the Jays had control of everything within their power but then got the phone call that they were out. Atkins said that it was one of the toughest calls he's had to take in his executive career.

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
So we've got the Yankees whining because newsrags that have no affiliation to them are doing what they always do, we've got Cashman scaling buildings for a free agent even though he's done it many times over the years and just enjoys the thrill, and we've got the Blue Jays whining somehow being different because they gave a great presentation and got rejected...just like everybody else.

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
It reads like the business equivalent of a high school dude being upset at a girl for not putting out at the end of a date. I would expect a major league GM would be more used to people keeping a positive vibe and still going in another direction. They only had one meeting, how many positive signals could they have possibly gotten? It just sounds like any other free agent signing attempt.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

My concern about the Chatwood signing is all of his walks. He posted a 4.7 BB/9 last season and 4.2 BB/9 in 2016. His walk numbers weren't any better on the road either. I know that's not everything, but It's slightly worrisome.Comment
