Looks like Delgado is going to be a Mariner
I just saw a report on TSN and TSN.CA that the Ms are shopping big time for Delgado. They've offered a 3 yr deal with an option for a 4th if Delgado is moved from the clean up spot. Delgado's agent has said that he doesn't have a problem with that. The Ms have talked to Delgado's representatives 2 or 3 times already. So it looks like Delgado is going to be in the PNW now.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

There's still a slim chance the Jays will still resign him.
I know the M's are also going after Sexson/Glaus/Pavano/Lieber.
As a Jays fan, I've already accepted the fact Delgado's a goner.
JP has his work cut out to upgrade the offence. I may be in the minority here, but I'm not a big fan of Rios. He's offence was dreadful last season and I don't understand why everybody keeps on talking about he will develop into a power hitter. He's never even hit 20 HR's at any professional level.
I'm hopeful the Jays can go out and sign Koskie and Clement. And somehow make a trade with the Reds involving Hinske and Kearns. -

I"m one of the people that think that Rios will turn out to be a decent bat. He may not turn into the super power hitting OF that they've hyped him up to be but I think he'll be a solid bat in the lineup.
I also hope that JP can pull off those moves you've just mentioned. If the Jays don't improve at all after this offseason then it's going to be a LOOOONG year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

His bad moves far outweigh the good one's he's made. I can't believe he wasted over 13 mil on Batista. Signing Hinske long term after his rookie season was also a mistake. He should have waited at least one more season before giving him his deal. Rookies make peanuts their first 3 years so there was no reason for JP to lock him long term.
I was going to talk to JP towards the end of last season and grill him but the Fan590 toll free number didn't work for me.Comment

Re: Looks like Delgado is going to be a Mariner
Its getting more painful to be a Jays fan even though Delgado was already scheduled to leave the Jays. But it seems like JP keeps pushing back the date where he says the team will be a contender. Maybe a miracle will happen this year not likely but I can still dream.Owner, Spear Interactive

You lock them up long term so that they are still "cheap" and
1. End up being cheaper during the duration of their contract in comparison to how much they would have demanded after 6 years of MLB Service - assuming Hinske would have continued to improve. Of course, J.P. misevaluated Hinske's growth.
2. You don't have to worry about arbitration and trying to lock them up when their 6 years of MLB service is up.
Like I said, J.P. misevaluated Hinske's growth, but it was a risk he needed to take as the Jays GM. Considering that the team had to consider the possibility of losing Delgado in a year (at the time of the deal) and rewind a few years, he needed to tie up some of the potential quality players to assure that they could remain under budget while having quality players and waiting for their other minor leaguers to mature."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
